Daily Inspiration: Meet Sherrie Willis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrie Willis.

Hi Sherrie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My baking story starts not too long ago in 2020 when the pandemic started, & right after my son was born. I started looking on Instagram for some type of inspiration and started seeing lots of cake pop videos and pictures.

I told myself, “that looks easy enough”. Lol, I went and got some chocolate, and some molds and by end of the week, I was posting cake pops and taking orders. I started making breakable bears, breakable hearts, number cakes, and jars. I was trying to figure out exactly what I wanted to do, and what made me happy.

I was a newly stay-at-home mom with a new baby and a lot of time to think. I did pretty well, but I started to feel like I was ready to give up on it because it started to feel like more of “work” than a passion like it did when started it.

Fast forward to 2022 when I started customizing cupcakes and it made me feel like I finally found what I was supposed to do with this whole baking thing. Give me your theme or colors and I can make magic happen. I love what I do and that I can do it while being the best mommy to my beautiful baby boy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all! Summers are really slow for me and everything is word of mouth really. I’m not the best at making content on social media, so that’s definitely a major thing that works against me. Pretty pictures of your work just aren’t enough anymore, you have to keep up with the trends in this business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I always tell people I specialize in cupcakes, and chocolate treats. If you have a vision for your event, I make it my goal to sprinkle a little magic on that vision for your treats table. I love when I send my clients pictures and videos once I’m done with their order and their reactions are emotional or super exciting, It’s such a rewarding feeling! As of now, I’m definitely known for my custom cupcakes, rather is pull-apart number cupcakes or by the dozen. I literally feel like I get better with every order.

I’ve stuck to it and I’m still perfecting my craft. Staying stagnant is not an option for me.

I’m most proud that I can show my son even when things are slow, or not going as planned with your goals to never give up. He watches me do all my orders and loves it when I include him to help. It’s the BEST feeling. I feel like my work and presentation sets me apart, PERIOD.

I don’t compare my work to any other bakers because that would drive me crazy. I’m in a lane of my own, and loving where I’m headed.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t say luck at all honestly. I will however say I am extremely blessed. My fiancé keeps me grounded and full of positivity when I’m going through those moments of uncertainty with my business. He always lets me know everything will work out and I’m way too creative to ever give up on my journey.

My father also plays a huge role in pushing me and making sure I have the tools I need to keep going. Between my son, my fiancé, and my father, I literally have the best team. My 3 guys are always on my mind and make me go hard for many different reasons. I thank them all!
