Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherman Jackson.
Hi Sherman, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got started in fitness in 2011. Throughout my childhood, I was overweight and I never played any sports and I wasn’t active at all. Matter of a fact gym was my least favorite class in school. In 2011, I decided I didn’t want to be that way anymore so I decided to do something about it & I made the decision to take my health more serious. I lost around 40 pounds in three months so I decided I should help someone else who maybe struggling with their weight. So in 2015, I got certified to become a personal trainer. I love seeing the look on my client’s face when they start seeing progress.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been easy. If you’re looking to work for yourself, it’s always a challenge starting out. The hardest part was getting myself out there but if you love what you do, you should keep going because I look at it as I couldn’t picture myself doing anything else anyway so I have to keep going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My job as a personal trainer is fun because it isn’t work for me I actually love what I do. The thing I’m most proud of are the boxing workouts I learned because that was the hardest thing for me to get the hang of. What sets me apart is I don’t tell people what they want to hear. Some men & women see people on social media & think if they do what that person does, they’ll look just like that. That’s not the case we all have different genetics so just focus on you & try your best. Also, it’s ok to eat you don’t always have to eat egg whites and chicken breast everyday. Moderation is key.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
In 2018 & 2019, I was at the height of my career so good luck was definitely involved but the bad luck came when covid happened so now I pretty much have to start over. I just have to keep pushing.
