Daily Inspiration: Meet Kacy-Ann Gable

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kacy-Ann Gable.

Hi Kacy-Ann, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started creating my hair and body care products in 2009 in my college dorm room after choosing to wear my hair naturally. As a broke college student, spending $50/month on hair products simply was not feasible, so I began to piece together ingredients that I found at the local beauty and grocery stores to create my own products. Over several years, what was once a necessity became a hobby; eventually, I shared my homemade hair butter with family and friends… they loved it! I started to take my hobby more seriously and spent time researching and learning how I could make a better product. I studied the importance of quality, organic ingredients, and fair trade sources.

In 2017, I felt the pull to make changes in my life and to take more chances. I spent the next year praying for answers and “a sign” as to what my next steps were… soon after the name Divinely Crafted was born. In 2018, with tons of support and encouragement from my loved ones, I turned my hobby into a business. Since then, I have grown Divinely Crafted, expanded the products, and increased my online presence.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth, no… not at all. Worth it, YES! I’m sure any business owner will tell you, the path of entrepreneurship is not easy- it requires long days and longer nights… it’s actually a 24-hour job when you’re fully committed. I also work a demanding “day job,” so learning to balance work, relationships, self-care and give my business the attention it needs has been the hardest part. However, starting my business and watching it blossom has made the “struggles” worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create natural and nontoxic hair and body care products that are 100% handmade. My mission with Divinely Crafted is to focus on creating products that give my customers an aromatic and luxurious experience. I like to utilize intentional herbal infusions for my products as well. I have found that this extra step enhances the overall experience of using hair and body care products.

I am most proud of seeing the way my products have enhanced the lives of my customers. I often hear how my Hair & Body Butters have helped to improve the appearance of surgical scars and reduce the symptoms of ailments like eczema. It encourages me to continue my education in herbalism to formulate more products that can help improve people’s lives and make them feel beautiful.

The beauty industry can be a crowded space. I like to set Divinely Crafted apart by curating unique and interesting fragrance combinations. Some of my favorite blends are Garden of Eden (a blend of lime and basil essential oils) or Moroccan Spice (a blend of bergamot and cinnamon essential oils). I love when a customer samples my products for the time and immediately falls in love with a fragrance blend that they’ve never tried before.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The beauty and cosmetics industry is changing rapidly… it’s hard to know exactly what will be the next new trend. But, there has been a major push towards using organic and cleaner products. I think that this trend will continue over the next 5-10 years, especially as customers continue to dissect ingredient labels and educate themselves. It’s awesome that more of us care about where and how the products we use are being made! For small businesses living in this “post” COVID world, it is not as easy or accessible to sell at retailers or pop-up shops, we will have to learn how to market our products online in innovative and exciting ways. I think we can expect to do less face-to-face sales and go mostly (entirely) online. But, that leaves a lot of opportunities for us to get creative and give our customers new and exciting content.
