Daily Inspiration: Meet Jaz Dareal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaz Dareal.

Hi Jaz, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Jaz. Others know me as JAZDAREAL (“The Revolutionary Rose”). A Washington, D.C. native. I am an Activist, Poet, Writer, Artist, overall just an individual who is dedicated to the enlightenment, equality, and progression of the African American Community. I started off making my own motivational content and posting videos on social media.

Shortly after that, I began getting invited to community events and public speaking. Here in Orlando, FL, I do a lot of community work/organizing (such as feeding, clothing, and educating people in the inner cities as well the youth). It has been a painful but beautiful struggle finding my place in this Universe, but everyday, I feel I’m fulfilling my purpose. I will continue to strive to leave a legacy and a light for others to grab hold to in what sometimes seems to be a dark world at times!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth, not so much lol. But I am blessed. I grew up in a lot of poverty. Abusive and drug-infested households. I was expelled from the public school system and attended an alternative school up until about 9th/10th grade. I also was on and off of probation as a teenager due to not making the most best decisions. One of my greatest life challenges was first losing my Father to a heroin drug overdose while serving in the U.S. Army, then three years later, my Mother.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Community Activism, Motivational Speaking, Writing, Music, as well Art. I am most known for my Activism work. I am most proud of never giving up and always focusing on evolving into my higher self. What sets me apart is that I truly am myself and I am true to others. I don’t look to be anyone other than what the Creator/Universe has designed me to be. I see the beauty in everything.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
All praise is due to Allah, next to my Mother, who is my life’s inspiration. Troy (my Step Father) who was the epitome of living life as your unapologetic true self. As far as mentors, my high school athletic trainer Keith Williams who dedicated a lot of time out of his personal life and career to shape/mold me into something more positive (I am so thankful). 2Pac, who has always encouraged my soul and poetry writing. My Father who has given me so much strength and perseverance. Lastly, anyone who has ever extended a helping hand or opened up a space/platform to me in my journey. Thank you soulfully. Peace.
