Daily Inspiration: Meet Iyona Anderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iyona Anderson.

Hi Iyona, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a love for makeup. Right before the pandemic began, I had just started to do my own makeup and I received so many compliments that it made me feel really good about my work. I started to research different makeup techniques and trends. However, it wasn’t actually until around January 2021 that I became fully invested in makeup, and in February when I began face painting. I started with practicing on myself, then a few friends and relatives let me practice on them. Now I have a small clientele and I am accepting new clients. I have hopes that my business will expand but honestly, this is just something that makes me happy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not, the road was not and still is not smooth at all. In the beginning, confidence was a big problem for me, I think it’s because I didn’t see the talent that everyone could see that I had. I had to find my own confidence. I had to learn how to hold my hand steady. I found a great mentor and subscribed to her group, I learned so many different makeup techniques. I eventually branched out and began to learn face painting techniques. Now, I just make sure I stay on top of my game. I practice a lot in my downtime.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently a stay-at-home mom of one and a pharmacy technician student. Aside from that, I own two businesses (Yiyis Faces LLC. & Goodness Gracious Goodie Bags LLC.). Yiyis Faces is my makeup/face painting business that offers natural, soft, and full glam looks. Also Yiyis Faces can be booked for face painting at birthday parties and other events. Goodness Gracious Goodie Bags is my company that provides party favor bags in bulks of 12 or more for multiple different types of events (weddings, birthdays, showers, etc). Both of my business’s prices are built around each customer’s personal needs. No two looks are the same, no events Goodie bags are the same. Everything is personal with my business and contact is always directly with me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I was lucky to have my family, my friends and my significant other supporting me. They all pushed me to do my best. I was really hard on myself, so I’ll say I was lucky they never gave up on me.
