Daily Inspiration: Meet Eliezer Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eliezer Rodriguez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2017 struggling through economic hardships & Hurricane Maria. I & my family decide to come to Harrisburg to look for a new quality-of-life improvement & economic opportunities in the US. I started to work in the kitchen at the age of 17.

After an extensive kitchen experience in Puerto Rico, work on everything from Buffet, dishwasher, line cook, prep cook, and kitchen supervisor. I was able to Pennsylvania and become a Sous Chef at a very popular Cuban restaurant in Harrisburg Los Tres Cubanos, after almost 2 years working with them I decided to move to the Crown Plaza Hotel in 2nd St.

After getting laid off from my employment during the Coronavirus Pandemic in March of 2020, I was determined to do what I always wanted my own business and work for myself. In May 2021 I started what we call Kokí Latin Cuisine, a Personal Chef project to cook for people in the comfort of their homes to bring the restaurant experience right to their houses.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wish I can say yes but not at all, We had a lot of economic hardship in Puerto Rico, Hurricane Maria wiped out most of the island in 2017 we had a lot of ups & downs but luckily Harrisburg has been really kind to us.

In 2020 everything & everyone got affected by the pandemic. But after I did all the legal things for my company, the hardest thing it’s been getting new clients, we have done a lot of promotional events, pop-ups & activities and we definitely wish to do more in the future.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in Latin & Puerto Rican food. I definitely think we are known for our empanadas. What I am most proud of is the response of our clients everywhere we had gone we have been a total hit, and people love our food. What set us apart is our food, we do Puerto Rican & Latin food with a restaurant flare.
