Today we’d like to introduce you to Dvine DeSigns.
Hello Dvine DeSigns, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My wife and I were both born and raised by our grandparents in the tough city of Baltimore which instilled in both of us the drive and determination to succeed. Dvine DeSigns was a vision my wife brought to life during the 2020 Pandemic. She works as a caretaker for families and came up with the idea to make shirts for the children. Funny thing is our children brought the 1st Cricut machine however it sat unused in the corner for weeks. Life happens and I had to get emergency neck surgery. With the support of my family and friends, I went home to recover. While the world was on the mandated lockdown, we finally decided to set up the machine and magic just happened. Neither of us had experience making shirts before however, my wife has always been crafty and talented in everything she touches. We created a test t-shirt while still healing, called Big Dog. After that everything else started to fall in place. As things started to pick up, we decided to bring in a business coach to help guide us from a business aspect. We then came together as a family and started thinking of names for our new family business. We came up with Dvine DeSigns using the unique spelling. Our company motto is “If you think of it, we will make it!” My wife and myself have been through the fire with our health. God allowed us to still be here to work with and make an impact with many people through our creativeness. The Black Lives Matter Movement is what really put us on the map and doors started to open. We utilized Facebook’s social media platform to connect with a large network of people that were looking for all kinds of personalized products and services and the rest is history.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
During the pandemic with social distancing mandates in place, we had to learn how to reach our customers. Of course, we encountered challenges but that’s what helped us to grow and continuously improve our business. Once we determined our target audience, we had to understand how to run the business in a way that will work for our schedule like having enough time to plan for projects and orders. Your brand is bigger than your business and you want them both to speak for themselves. We also struggled with balancing our personal time with business time. My wife loves to craft and design as a personal hobby so it comes natural and doesn’t feel like work. With the whole family stuck in the house during the lockdown, we had to figure out how to make the best use of everyone’s gifts. A major obstacle learned along the way was understanding that not all business is good business. You have to really know what’s worth your time and energy. When it comes to budget, setting a price and sticking to it is hard especially when you know your worth and it sometimes requires you to negotiate with our customers and most importantly make sure everyone’s satisfied. Several lessons later, here we are getting bulk orders from companies who trust our services and love our professionalism.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in customized t-shirts, hoodies, masks, aprons, pillows, blankets, and mugs. We can personalize almost anything from an idea. My wife just started creating a blinged-out line of wine glasses, canvas bags, socks and so much more.
We are extremely proud of our growth within a year of starting the business which has generated new ideas for other businesses. We now have a line called “Created on Purpose” The meaning behind the name is because everything on this Earth exists for a reason. Once you tap into your true potential and purpose and align with what you were called to do, that’s when everything will fall into place. We’re able to build relationships with our customers through their personal stories. They wear our products with pride.
What sets us apart from others is that this comes natural to us so you can tell by the quality you receive with each item. We also provide exceptional customer service and the quickest turnaround time which goes a long way with our customers. God has been preparing us for this new business venture and it’s brought our family together. Dvine DeSigns is not just custom apparel, it’s a feeling you won’t find anywhere else.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The important lesson we learned from the pandemic is that creativity lives inside of you and if you have the drive and determination to bring a vision to life anything is possible. Find a professional mentor to provide guidance and coaching, write the vision down in quarters so you have a tangible plan. Revisit your plan often to think of ways to improve and grow. It’s important all Black families have multiple streams of income and financial assets.
