Daily Inspiration: Meet Chameka Hamilton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chameka Hamilton. Them and their team share their story with us below:

A native of the District of Columbia, Chef Meek was raised in a family that loved southern and tasty food. As a young adult, she started to develop a passion for cooking by watching, helping, and learning in her uncle’s catering business.

Over the next few years, while working in non-culinary fields, Chef Meek quickly found her calling in cuisine. She became passionate about creating dishes, the art of food decorating, and dining area décor.

Chef Meek decided to start a new phase of her life and career. She formed Meek Meals LLC. As she celebrates that decision, she says to live your life and listen to your inner voice because it is always a permanent connection with your faith and your purposes.

Chef Meek says “I cannot wait to wake up each day knowing this is my life’s work”. Through her work, she gets to meet the most amazing people! Imagine getting calls from people who are looking to surprise, adore, and cherish the one they love. She loves her clients and she is dreaming up the unimaginable for this next phase.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road to running and managing a catering business. Being a great chef is not enough to be successful.

In this competitive market, some of my struggles have been (a) proving myself in the market so I can stay ahead of my competitors in order to attract clients; (b) charging competitive prices for my services to ensure that I cover most of my necessary expenses to operate the business; (c) negotiating deals for my services with new and existing customers, and (d) working extremely long hours.

I expect the road not to be smooth because it is a tough business to work in. With hard work, dedication, and gained experience, I will face all of my encounters in hopes of becoming a successful catering business!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love how small businesses partner together to collaborate and create new experiences. I least like how few black private chefs there are in the DMV. I wish there were a larger community for knowledge sharing and mentoring.
