Daily Inspiration: Meet Brittney Thornton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Thornton.

Hi Brittney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story is definitely one to thank God for. I started about six years ago and decided to quit my corporate job to make a new life in radio. I never knew that the journey ahead was going to go the way it did. I gained more experience not only in my craft but my personal life changed too. I lost my father after my 3rd season, got into a car accident totaling the car and was jumped and robbed by a group of overly intoxicated females. I think to this day it was bad energy trying to force me to quit, but I didnt.

Steadily making progress after managing how to recover from financial setbacks and life’s humbling experiences, I maintained running my own independent radio show for 5 seasons with DJ Konsistance from the beginning. I worked in the DC, Virginia and Baltimore areas for the first four years, then I started traveling to NY, Atlanta and LA. Not just because of radio but because throughout all of the painful events in my life, from relationships to life lessons, I dropped over 140 pounds. Modeling and fitness became a part of my brand as I became “The Queen of Coverage”. The blessings and opportunities that have come from persistence, prayer and hard work have brought me to several publications, interviews, shows and alot more. I’m finally putting together the final pieces of the big picture literally. This fall be on the lookout for me on your TV screen!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I have lost several things, but I realized everything that was “taken” from me was replaced, whether it was material items to people that I valued very much. Letting go of old ways and bad habits are my lessons from the challenges I experienced. Sometimes I thought, “why am I attracting this energy?” And the answer was easy because I allowed it. Not being able to say no to things that don’t suit you will leave the door open for things that were never intended for you. Roads can always be smoother the more you know who you are and what you stand for.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a radio & media personality, actress, model, host, blogger, videographer, editor, creative director and wellness coach. I specialize in radio and video recorded interviews about artists, entrepreneurs, brands and businesses… my favorite part about my career. I love interviewing people because they’re reactions to my genuinely intriguing questions to unveil the true person in front of my audience leaves my guests feeling like media professionals aren’t all out for the gossip or clout.

I’m most proud of the fact when I quit my job my mom thought I was making the biggest mistake because as a millennial’s mom that’s all she knew, but now the support from her considering the struggles we’ve overcome is beyond words can describe. I love her so much for sticking through this with me and my brother too. My guests and clients say that my energy, spirit and execution are aligned with Oprah, Wendy Williams and Angie Martinez in one person. It puts even more pressure on me to be better at every interview.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking should come naturally, but you have to realize that no one is going to be as passionate about your brand as you are. Don’t focus on who’s popular, focus on who can teach you something or help you build one another. A great way to getting a mentor is to intern.
