Conversations with Shon Ski

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shon Ski.

Hi Shon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a professional artist for about 4 years and an entrepreneur for about 1.5 years. Music has always been my foundation, my mother and father always had music playing in the house.

My siblings and I would perform for our family. I knew I wanted to pursue music when I was 18 and got offered a job being an insurance broker.

It didn’t feel right, I told my mom I wanted to sing/rap and she bought me my first my mic. I was a teenage mom but the support of my family made my dream possible to obtain. I am grateful for that.

Now I’m a mom of 3 and a full-time artist/entrepreneur. I attended Full Sail University (online) while co-hosting an online radio show here in Baltimore city, back in 2016. I went on to drop singles and I recently dropped my debut project “Somewhere Out There”. I also started my natural hair business “HairSki” which I hold near to my heart. I am still in the baby stages of building the infrastructure.

I hand-make body butter and hair oil. My objective is to show everyone ways to display self-love in their self-care while achieving hair and skin health. I’m pretty busy these days, with my art and side hustles. Don’t ask me how I do it, my faith in my creator keeps me going.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not, I had my share of toxic relationships and family struggles like being homeless.

The loss of my daughter’s father in 2018 was a huge blow as well. Losing my job during the pandemic and being in financial distress as well.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a recording artist, audio engineer, media personality, and entrepreneur. I am most proud of my debut album I dropped this March. And my hair business I started last year.

I am multifaceted so that’s what I feel sets me apart. And I do well in all of these fields. I am most known for being an artist and performing.

What matters most to you? Why?
Love and family. Love in all forms it’s what keeps me going. My family and I have been through everything together and they are such a blessing to me.
