Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawnte Ware.
Hi Shawnte, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi there! I’m Shawnte, PA kid living in Maryland for about the last decade. I started my foodie Instagram page in July 2021; the inspiration came from my years of being a Yelp Elite and just loving food altogether. I’ve been a Yelp Elite since 2019 and really enjoy the experiences, I’ve had with trying different cuisines and visiting different businesses. From a personal perspective, I love sharing my experiences on my personal Instagram, especially when it comes to food and traveling so I decided “Why not?” I wanted to create a platform where I could showcase my favorite pastime and also provide exposure to local businesses.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So far so good! My small but humble page has received a lot of positive feedback, whether it be from other foodie bloggers like myself or the businesses that I highlight. My goal of course is to have people from all over follow my page and engage with me, I think this will really help me progress in the coming months on how I share my content.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My bread and butter is higher education. I currently work as an undergraduate adviser for business students and I recently started teaching Business Management courses. I’ve worked in higher education for over 10 years and absolutely love what I do.
I had some great people in my life who helped me throughout my undergrad and grad journey so being able to provide that same type of support and care to others is me paying it forward. I think what sets me apart with advising is that I always make sure to build a foundation with my students; each one has a different story and comes from different paths but the common goal is that they want to go to college to better themselves and to find better opportunities.
I make sure my students understand that although I am here for resources and support, it’s up to them to determine how this journey will go, accountability is key!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I must say my friend Tolani has been instrumental with helping me get my page up and running and providing ideas on changes I can make to my blog in the future. She’s very business-minded (she’s my own personal Kris Jenner, lol) so I know, I can come to her with an idea or ask for feedback. I must also say that friends and family members have been super supportive of my new creative endeavor and they’re so excited to see my progress.
