Conversations with Sharee Murphy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharee Murphy.

Hi Sharee, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
SimplySue Corporation started in a small town in southern VA and is named after my late grandmother, Mattie Sue Tisdale Eason. Our non-profit, Simply Sue Corporation organization is geared towards generating a culture of forward-thinking individuals and self-starting entrepreneurs.

We pride ourselves in youth & young adult development and focus on innovation and creativity. Our mission provides unity by embracing a sense of community building and encouraging empowerment.

What initially began as a neighborhood babysitter charging $7 a day (yes, per day) to keep children, paving the way for the next and upcoming generations of HustlHERS. Through Mattie Sue, we were taught that honesty, openness, perseverance, and excellence are all possible through change. Being adopted into a family, led by this queen is what drives me.

I have taken the fundamentals and guidance from my muse and incorporated that into a long-lasting, relevant brand. A brand that will inspire, teach and positively impact not only the black culture but American culture as a whole.

I’m no stranger to Business Management. 15+ years of leadership within the same brand is the value that I nurture Simply Sue with. Entrepreneurship is not for everyone, but for “the one” it happens to you. Dreams and manifestations unfold with hard work and self-discipline.

Through consistency of self-promotion, marketing, networking, and being true to my values I have gone from a last-minute customer in the front yard to a prime-time Saturday night, downtown Richmond venue. Dreams don’t work unless you do. Don’t be afraid to do the work and accept everything that comes with it.

The youth of SimplySue Corporation have been gifted with SimplySue Party Rentals. The first piece of the Simply Sue puzzle. Utilizing the skill set that I acquired while working and learning how to monetize it, is a tool I am proud to teach each child that I encounter.

I love what I do because it is for me. God has been preparing me for this journey my entire life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all.

Everything has not been all sunshine and rainbows. Obstacles include – living. Real-life adversity of being a single parent, and survivor’s remorse while surviving mental illness have been the key to success at Simply Sue. I don’t give up because I cannot. There are people that have never met me, that need me.

The loss of my grandmother has been the hardest thing that I have ever had to deal with and is the sole burning force driving my passion for all that I do. Personal struggles – imposters syndrome – self-sabotage, and understanding mental illness have all reared their ugly heads.

I have really had to learn myself. Set boundaries and maintain them. If I could say anything to myself to look back on it would be… TRUST YOUR GUT.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an active content creator. This includes YouTube, Social Sites, marketing, and promotions.

I specialize in consultations, promotion, and artist/business development and offer a plethora of services that your business needs.

My most notable productions include
for kids – Easter on Strawberry Hill
for adults – the Expression of Fashion

Hands Down, top 2 for sure!

Easter on Strawberry Hill was strictly for kids, offering my signature Karaoke 4 Kids, arts/crafts, and games. The community really pulled through and showed me great support. I would like to thank the venue owner Linda Pittman for being so easy to work with.

I’ve had several productions and the ease of working with an amazing venue owner is something that should not be taken for granted. The amount of love needed in the Petersburg, VA area hits home to me. I worked initially outside of the area and noticed an influx of applicants that were underprepared, underdressed, and lacked basic interview/job attainment skills.

There was an unhealthy trend of behavior in this one specific area. Well I didn’t want to beat ’em, and no way was I going to join ’em, but the third option no one talks about is “teach ’em” and that is just what I did and continue to do.

The Expression of Fashion – from the eyes of 7x internationally published designer RJ Brands Customs and Eula J’s Designs. Fashion is more than what to wear. It’s an expression of emotion. Fashion to me is the ultimate self-expression. Nothing feels cooler than linen shorts on a spring day or fresher than a long-sleeved tie-dye hoodie.

It’s never been about the brand, although some designers do’s missed it. It’s how those clothes make you feel. When I had on my custom RJ Brands Custom jacket I felt invincible. I know the jacket has no superpowers, but the right accessory will put the battery in your back.

What sets me different from everyone else is, that my moves are made with purpose from a higher being. Every person that I have interacted with has been placed in my path by God. My work is genuine and comes from a place of love.

Any big plans?
My future plan includes “An Expression of Me” my debut collection of poetry. This journey that I have called life has been more than one could imagine and I will use my voice to share it with you.

Growth – by Sharee Murphy

Less than our creator
More than what’s on a scale.
True transitions in our minds,
Greater than a fairy tale.
Striving for success
Each and every day.

I had to make a way.
To clear a path and make some space.,
And allow the opportunity for my future, to explode in everyone’s face.
God’s got a plan for me.
Just wait and you’ll see.
Watch me take the subtle approach.
Showcasing consistency. Amplifying growth.

Expect this out on July 11, 2022! WOO HOO!

Moving forward the nonprofit sponsors two yearly youth events. The Simply Sue Halloween Bash and Easter on Strawberry Hill.

For adults, we have the PLUG N PLAY Mixer every First Friday to provide support for those interested in the arts. From April – June 2022, there have been over 50 murders of youth/young adults in this area. A little art goes a long way when it is hard to find the beauty around you.
