We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There will always be struggles in life, especially when you are doing anything completely on your own or attempting to build a career that isn’t as traditional. The pandemic was a major obstacle, not just for me but for everybody. I try not to complain about how it affected my career because people lost family members, loved ones, friends, etc. I lost many loved ones during that time as well. So I try to look on the bright side and consider myself lucky that I could still showcase my talents online and make moves happen, even during the pandemic.

Six months ago, I lost my keyboard player, Dawoud, to heart failure. I lost my grandmother as well. I also live with a form of IBD called Crohn’s Disease which I receive IV therapy for every 8 weeks. While all these things present struggles and setbacks, I still consider myself extremely fortunate. I have a loving, supportive family, I get to perform with my best friend daily, I have an army of supporters on social media who share all of my videos, and I’ve gotten to perform in places I would have never thought I’d be able to.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
While I do many things in and outside of music, I think I am best known for playing musical instruments, mainly the saxophone and guitar. I have had the opportunity to play with some very notable artists over the past couple of years. Being in the studio with Wiz Khalifa and recording songs for his past few projects has surely been a blessing. He’s been my favorite artist since middle school, and I’m proud to know that my faith, hard work, and manifestation eventually led us to create music together. I feel the same way about getting to play with Paramore.

What sets me apart is the range of genres and music I’m able to play. I never set out to be the most technically skilled musician or to be a jazz artist or a rock artist. I just wanted to be versatile enough to get a call from any artist or band and know that I could execute. I have a very eclectic taste in music and always wanted my playing to reflect that.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Havre de Grace is a beautiful town. Everyone in my community is extremely supportive of me and my dreams. I feel like I have a community of people around me who genuinely want to see me do well and accomplish my goals. HDG all-day
