Conversations with Rod Van Blake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rod Van Blake.

Hi Rod, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a science fiction and fantasy author who began as an avid reader of these genres while living in Japan as an active-duty Marine. I had read so many books that one day I was curious to see if I could write one of my own. That started me on my writing journey.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all. For a time, I let life get in the way a few times before I finally completed my first novel. The second and third went smoother and then of course once we seemed to be getting into a rhythm with conventions the shutdown happened. I was however able to remain productive during that time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have worked quite a few jobs since being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps from various security/bouncer gigs to retail jobs selling phones and electronics to owning my own businesses selling telecommunication services. Online marketer for a real estate brokerage in the Virgin Islands was the most recent before becoming a full-time writer. I am already a very large person which helps me stand out and my various experiences has made me comfortable with speaking to people which helps when trying to sell or pitch my books. People often approach me when they see me beside or behind my table in disbelief that someone that looks like me could actually write one book much less four. I am proud of my perseverance and consistency. I specialize in science fiction and fantasy stories and plan to build these worlds through as many mediums as possible. The graphic novels were just the beginning.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I can be found on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as well as through my author website People can reach out via email on my site or direct message and they can purchase the books on popular platforms or through direct links on my site for signed copies of the books and graphic novels. Any new events I will be attending or future Kickstarter announcements will be seen through the previously mentioned platforms. I am always looking for artists and other creators to collaborate with.
