Conversations with Lateeka Shaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lateeka Shaw.

Hi Lateeka, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story starts in Baltimore, MD, where I learned everything from how to cook, take care of family, play sports, work, and have a skill in many positions to be creative and survive. Being in a household of ten was very challenging for me. It gave me the motivation, faith, and ambition I needed to push thru all my hard times and pain because, as we know, Baltimore City is not an easy place to grow up. You have to be strong, and that’s why I can make it anywhere. I always wanted to be an entrepreneur so I could first own a piece of land or establishment because that’s what my elders stored in us. I chose to move to Phoenix, AZ, to become a better me, and it has been a blessing to come out of my comfort zone into another place and grow. My life has taken me on a path I have always dreamed of. I now have two beautiful kids that my wife and I adopted our grandchildren. I was so scared because now I had more responsibilities on my plate and still had the drive and energy to pursue my goals, but in reality, it gave me more of what I needed to succeed. I am so proud of myself. If you know anything about Teeka Shaw, you understand exactly what and where I come from. Change and growth are what I pride myself on because, with it, I am married, raising two kids, and an owner of two businesses ( Teeka’s Candles LLC and That B-More Drip LLC). I have stable stability; I am in school getting my high school diploma, which has me very excited. This transformation has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. It’s such a blessing that I am now thriving in it all. But never will I forget where I come from or who made me BALTIMORE!!! I name my business B-More Drip because I will always value and carry my city in my heart, for it’s my home and who I am. I offer delectable cuisines with a flavor of Baltimore to the Southwest streets of Phoenix. I aspire to obtain a storefront. Currently, we are grinding through the local vendor scene, pop-up shops, and catering here in Arizona. We have been connecting with the community and bringing our love of food to the masses.

Brand our Bmore Drip flavors through specialized egg rolls, build your rice bowls and a host of dishes from our catering menu. One of my ultimate goals is to give back to Baltimore, its communities, youth programs is a definite, schools, recreation centers, senior homes, health care, shelters, cleaning around the neighborhoods, etc. Where ever there is a need for help, I want to participate in it or do my part. Check us out, as you will be divinely pleased. We are on IG@ Thatb.moredrip and via Facebook @ that B-More Drip. Teeka’s Candles can also be found on IG & Facebook. Email us @

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The most challenging thing for me was believing I could do it. Growing up back in the day, no one ever explains how to be your boss. So it was new territory for me. I embraced the opportunity, never seeing a challenge and pushing through, being 2500 miles from family and friends, raising my grandchildren in my later years, and building a new brand for myself. The pandemic even dampened my dreams as we were on lockdown while I gave birth to That B-More Drip and Teeka’s Candles. So if anyone knows what I mean, you understand. Sometimes things don’t always go how we plan—you when some and you lose some. Patience is the real winner in starting a business. And always expect the unexpected, be prepared, educate yourself more, and perfect your craft. These are some obstacles I had to overcome and learn as I continued, but they pushed me to my fullest potential. So I say make sure it’s what you want and a passion, not just something you want to get into, because it’s not for the weak.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create things that bring happiness to your moments; My food instills joy and comfort; The spices and flavors dance with your taste buds as your senses embrace this incredible experience. My candles bring tranquility to your home with an authentic handmade touch. It’s a way that I can give everyone around the world a warm hug. I specialize in Catering & Candles. My catering menu offers dishes of many cultures: soul food, Italian, Asian, Mexican, Caribbean & more. For our pop-up shops and local vending, we offer specialized Egg rolls such as cheese steak, chicken bacon, ranch, shrimp, jalapeños, and Veggie egg rolls. You name a flavor, and we can create it! We love to offer what the customer love, so building your bowls goes a long way. Choose your meat, chicken, steak, or sausage with over 15 toppings such as broccoli, cheese, veggies, bacon, chives, cilantro etc. Then the Drip sauces Chesapeake Ranch Bmore Caesar or Avocado Drip, all homemade. Both of my companies are a part of who I am. My food explains the nurture in me, and my candles represent the light I try to share with the world. That’s why it’s all so unique.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Making this move to Phoenix was a risk, but I take those. I never thought it would be this risky coming here with nothing and my family of 5. We had to start living in an Air BnB and then search for an apartment or someplace to take us long-term until we got things together. Coming to a strange place and trying to find your way with little to nothing with your family was certainly a risk.

  • Eggrolls are $3.50 2for6 shrimp is $4 2for 7
