Today we’d like to introduce you to Elecktra G.
Hi Elecktra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I would say I got my start in drag through the traditional means of entering an amateur drag competition. When the Town dance boutique was open, I joined this amateur drag competition called so you think you can drag. This was the only amateur drag competition at its time, and it didn’t often happen, so I took full advantage when the opportunity arose for me to enter. Now I didn’t win the competition, but I did catch the eye of the queen hosting the event. The diva of Town and the queen of DC, Shi-queeta Lee, took me under her wing and got me started on Journey. Through pure determination and the kindness of others, Elecktra was born.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For me, there have always been obstacles in my life. I have always struggled to learn to be confident enough to overcome them. Dealing with self-doubt, not thinking you are good enough or worthy to want more for yourself. Making yourself small so others will feel comfortable in your presence. I think a lot of people struggle with that. I’ve held myself back for a year because I didn’t think I could handle being successful. It took me years to realize I shouldn’t be afraid of succeeding and I should be more afraid of never attempting to live up to my potential.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Drag Entertainer. I specialize in female illusion and impersonation. I am most known for my Beyonce impersonations and sexy yet high-energy dance numbers. I’m most proud of the level of performance I bring every time I step onto a stage. I get a level of consistency and professionalism in whatever venue I perform at. If you’ve seen me perform, the next time will be just as good. I think what sets me apart from other drag entertainers is essentially me. I try to put a little bit of me in everything I do, down to the way I dress, to the way I perform, and the way I do my makeup. I’m constantly thinking, how would Elecktra do this, wear this, or say this. Elecktra is her entity, and she has her point of view. Giving her a voice helps me build the fantasy you see on stage.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to continue to build my brand and business, expanding and growing it into something much bigger than I could even imagine it being. I am taking Elecktra to places all across the world.
