Today we’d like to introduce you to DeVonte’ Tasker.
Hi DeVonte’, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in East Baltimore City. I have been dancing and singing since I was five and have always been passionate about entertainment! My music career started in 2019 while I was in Los Angeles for a dance program. I was so inspired by the industry’s upcoming entertainers that I booked a studio session for my 18th birthday and recorded my first official song, “Starlight”! After that initial rush of creativity hit, I turned one song into five, and by March 2021, my first EP, entitled “Explorations,” had been released! Now, in 2022 I am gearing up for a second EP release that has a completely new sound but continues the idea of exploring my artistry and what I can deliver to the entertainment industry!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
Things have not been easy! I am not a trained singer by any means! Nor am I the best at rapping “off the dome”! I had to learn what I am offering people with my art. I am learning to incorporate my many skills into my music to present more than just a voice or a sick punchline, but also an experience that people can enjoy and feel inspired by! The BIGGEST challenge I’ve had to face in my overall life was the passing of my mother in February 2022. She was my biggest supporter, best friend, forever valentine, and overall the best mother I could’ve asked for! I am still healing from this loss. I still feel her with my daily and even more so when I am performing! She supported my ambitious ideas and found ways to move the money to fund them, sometimes at her own expense.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a rapper, singer-songwriter, dancer, choreographer, and creative director! I think my ability to be multifaceted is what sets me apart from other entertainers today! I specialize primarily in dance/ choreography, and if you’ve seen a show, you know I always perform!
What characteristic of yours would you give the most credit if you had to?
I think tenacity is the most important quality to have for success. My tenacity and drive have helped me gain the experiences I have. I have been deterred before, but my tenacity keeps me pushing forward!
