Conversations with Brandi Lewis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Lewis.

Hi Brandi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I attended the Art Institute Of Philadelphia and graduated in 2005. I started making t-shirts in my dorm room and from there, my brand Syeko was birthed. I bought five T-shirts home to Baltimore and from those five t-shirts, my brand began to grow. Throughout the years, I’ve showcased at numerous fashion shows and hosted wearable art workshops. I have a showroom at the Motor House which is an art haven for artist to express their creativity freely in a safe environment. My garments are also sold at Katwalk Boutique located in fells pointe.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Syeko has not been a smooth road but I wouldn’t change anything because the bumps along the way has made me the strong woman I am today. Once I started to believe in myself and the gift God blessed me with, I began to move forward. When self-love fills your heart, it will spill over in all areas of your life. I am a strong believer that Love conquers all.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a wearable art designer that specializes in hand-painted sustainable and Vintage garments. I give garments life. I embellishments with paint pearls, brooches and glam. I am known for going Syeko on garments. For seeing the beauty in overlooked pieces and creating art. I love the form and fabrics of vintage garments. They remind me of how beautiful my grandmother looked in her outfits. I am most proud of never giving up on my dream. I have strayed away but when it’s a gift from God, it will never leave your heart. And It never did. So I never let go… We are automatically set apart from others because God only made one of us. He gave each of us a talent and it’s up to us to move forward with it. We all have a passion, a love, a dream that we want to move forward with. Now is the time to do it!.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Self-love, believing in my passion and never giving up has helped me to move forward with Syeko. Once I learned to trust myself things started to flow. Once self-love kicks in, it overflows to every area of your life. Also, I appreciate my clients so much and I show them. Without them, there would be no Syeko.
