Today we’d like to introduce you to Benyapak Mensh.
Hi Benyapak, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Benyapak Mensh. In Thailand, we are given nicknames at birth, and my parents gave me the nickname Foam. I was raised in Phitsanulok, a city considered the door to the North of Thailand, where my parents own a small restaurant. As an only child, I was tasked to help out around the restaurant – which is where my love for food and cooking began. In 2015, I migrated to the United States, and the more I missed my Mom’s cooking, the more I started to experiment and try to replicate her recipes.
I have always enjoyed, and had a keen eye, for photography – so I started making aesthetically -pleasing videos of my cooking and posting them to my social media. After about a month of daily posts, I was fortunate enough to have a few videos go viral, and my follower count started quickly rising. As I started getting messages from different companies asking for paid partnerships, I began to take everything more seriously and treat it as a business. By staying true to myself, remaining consistent, and most importantly being adaptive (to what I have left in the fridge), I’ve been able to get to where I am today – and hope to maintain success moving forward.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has not been the smoothest. I have a full-time job as a QA Automation Tester – so producing consistent quality content while also working my 9-to-5 can get quite complicated. I have been somewhat forced to become both quick and efficient, with my time and cooking.
Over the past half-year or so, my house has been in renovation mode, so I have not been able to show my kitchen in my videos for quite some time. Thankfully, I’ve been able to adapt and overcome the challenge with close-up shots and a portable gas burner. Not to mention – I rely on natural sunlight for the majority of my videos, so overcast/wintery days tend to spoil my fun.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When visiting @CookWithFoam on social media, you can either sit back and enjoy watching some quick home-cooking videos with beautifully colored ingredients and ear-tickling audio – or you can jot down my (somewhat) simple recipes to try for yourself at home!
I specialize in authentic Thai cuisine, but have a knack for creating tasty snacks – especially toast! The thing that I am most proud of, is being able to share my family’s recipes in the hopes that someone, whom I’ve never met, may have tried out that recipe and shared it with their family.
How do you define success?
To me, success is being able to do what I enjoy, for a living.
