Community Highlights: Meet Vonnae’ Henry of THB Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vonnae’ Henry.

Hi Vonnae’, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, my career and education have mainly been in the field of Human Service and Public Safety.

However, my love for the beauty industry has always been there. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved HAIR! As a child, playing with dolls and experimenting on their hair trying different styles, I fell in love with the idea that hair can be a non-verbal statement!

As I got older, I expressed creativity with my own hair trying different colors and styles. My love for hair extensions began in middle school. I was allowed to try a new style for graduation and the relationship was permanently sealed. All through high school, college, and grad school, I tried every hairstyle imaginable. I loved the many textures, colors, and styles of hair extensions.

They helped me to express my personality, feelings, and mood. In high school, I worked part-time as a shampoo assistant at a local hair salon in west Baltimore. From there, I began to teach myself more advanced hair styling techniques such as braiding with synthetic hair and installing weaves using hair extensions.

I mainly practiced on my own hair and eventually, random people would stop me to compliment my hair or ask which hair salon I’d gone to. Since I’m not a licensed stylist, I never accepted clients and never thought of the hair industry as a job. It was just something fun that I enjoyed!

Over the years, I began to focus more on hair extensions solely. I learned about textures, origins, weft structure, hair processing, virgin hair vs. raw hair, and so on. I began to learn the difference between hard-to-manage hair and quality hair. I learned about terminology and industry standards. Then in the summer of 2019, I got the idea to try turning this passion into a business.

By the end of 2019, THB Beauty was born! I officially launched my business in April 2021 and left my career in Human Services behind at the beginning of 2022.

Though THB Beauty is still very young, I feel that my knowledge and passion for this industry will provide longevity. I’m passionate about teaching my clients about hair and not just making a sale. I want my business to be respected and trusted, I want my clients to trust me!

I lead with integrity and I believe that has what made THB Beauty successful so far.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have no background or experience in the hair business.

I have hit some snags on the road like coming across poor-quality hair while searching for vendors overseas. I had to teach myself everything related to managing and operating a business and I’m still learning every day.

I never expected this to be easy and I embrace the fact that I will be learning for the rest of my life. I’ve made some mistakes but I understand it’s normal. What has helped me maintain is by remaining consistent.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about THB Beauty?
The name THB Beauty is an acronym for Henry Brand Beauty.

THB Beauty specializes in Raw Indian Hair imported directly from southern India. We also offer fashion jewelry (minimalist in style) and will eventually expand to beauty supplies and products.

What has set THB Beauty apart is professionalism. That has been the #1 feedback we’ve received from customers.
Clients appreciate honesty and professionalism and that’s what THB Beauty brings to this industry.

What I’m most proud of is the growth THB Beauty has achieved in such a short time. We have regular clients from all over the country, from Miami to Houston to Los Angeles.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The Covid-19 crisis taught me many things but the most important was to value peace and happiness.

We have a short time on earth and spend most of it doing things we do not love or are not passionate about. I’ve learned to carve out time for the people and things I love.

Essentially, do not wait to live!
