Community Highlights: Meet Tim and Michele Langhauser of Compass Home Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim and Michele Langhauser.

Tim and Michele, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Tim and I started Compass Home Group in 2012. Business partners first, our love story came second. Tim and I decided to join forces recognizing the evolution of real estate with the ever-enhancing changes brought to us by technology. We both yearned to build because we wanted to directly respond to the community in which we live. We both knew real estate could be done differently… better. Our partnering has proved how!

Tim and I complimented each other’s skill sets. Matter of fact, we still do! When we partnered, we quickly delegated… Michele will be “people,” and Tim will be “tech”. Regardless of the lines drawn, we’ve built a business that serves who we are as individuals, who we are as a couple (and being a husband/wife partnership is hard), and who we desire to be in the community.

Structuring our growth towards our clients has been the key to our success! Tim and I really leaned into our mission, which is to have fun, share love, and build community through real estate. As we continue to grow our company, we are always looking for more ways to serve the people that promote us. At Compass Home Group, you’re not just a real estate transaction. You are family!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a husband/wife partnership has it’s own challenge, especially when you are a locally owned family business. The hustle of family & kids on top of all things business is a day-to-day sorting between the two of us.

Other challenges were: 1. Hiring the right people. 2. Knowing when to “move” of our business from a nationally recognized brand to a home-grown local shop. 3. The backlash of every market; 2008 was a challenge for sellers. Now, the challenge is for buyers. We are constantly mastering the market of the moment in order to serve high level.

We’ve been impressed with Compass Home Group, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Compass Home Group (CHG) is a local, family-owned real estate firm. While our office is located in Bel Air, MD (Harford County), we serve Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Harford County, & Cecil County. CHG is known for having fun, sharing love, and building community through real estate. Our culture, the tribe we’ve built, and our hearts to give back set us apart from all others. We are most proud of this service standard! Tying ourselves to your goals, not just your real estate transaction, is what makes you CHG Family! When you are a part of CHG, you are a part of something BIGGER and we are constantly & consistently inviting you into that! This is a high-level, boutique-style serve at a value level that goes beyond any transaction.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Tim was always spontaneous and ready for action. He played sports as a pitcher in baseball and could also be found playing outside with his court of friends. Tim was always the leader of his pack and those tails go for pages.

Michele was cautious, challenged, and a bit more of a rule follower. She dreamed, a lot… desiring greatly to break free of her adolescent home life. As a planner, Michele learned at a young age that plan’s change and that you have to change with them.

Both are the 2nd born, middle children in their family settings which gives Tim and Michele relatable hearts.
