Today we’d like to introduce you to Tifphany Cantey.

Hi Tifphany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Tifphany Nichol Weddings is a Baltimore-based wedding planning boutique specializing in day-of wedding coordination and design, admirably named after me, the owner and creative behind the brand. My business was born at the intersection of simplicity and creativity. Even as a child, I’ve always had a thing for party planning, arts and crafts and all things creative. I first found my love for event planning in high school, where I served as the student body president. With this title came the responsibility of planning balls, proms, commencement, and all festivities in between. In college, I spent my undergraduate years planning both on and off campus events for hundreds of students through my involvement with several campus organizations.

It was not until 2013 when preparation met opportunity. It was then, after completing my public relations program, that I decided it was time to explore internship options ahead of graduation. I landed my first intern role with a local planner right here in Baltimore. Not too long after being under her guidance, my sister got engaged and I found myself jumping for joy at the idea of having my first “guinea pig” wedding. With no hesitation, my sister welcomed my ambition – It was then that the vision for Tifphany Nichol Weddings was born. However, it was not until 2018 when the brand finally came to life to what we know and see today.

Today, Tifphany Nichol Weddings is more than a business. It’s a brand – inspired by my vision to influence, delight and captivate through her simplistic creativity and bestfriend energy. I continue to scale my business by staying true to my style, personality and Why; Today, I’ve proclaimed myself as the “Curator of Love”, with the help of my friends. It speaks to my successes up until this point – 4 magazine publications, one public news TV feature, perfect 5-star client review rating. And all I continue to do is help my clients tell their love stories one detail at a time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
By no means has it been a smooth road. In fact, following my internship completion in 2013, I tried my luck at booking my own clients outside of my sister, and often did I fail. By fail, I mean I fell short of not only my own expectations but those of my clients. I lacked the resources, network and organization needed to really grow myself within the industry.

Personally, I’m a single mompreneur. While I do it all effortlessly, I have to be intentional about my care requirements to ensure I don’t burn out. Balancing mommy duties with business responsibilities proves hard from time to time, scheduling conflicts present themselves, and there is never enough time in the day to spend with my son, etc. Sometimes I find myself bringing my son on my site visits, meeting clients at their rehearsals, and they’re perfectly fine with it. They actually love meeting him but the hardest part is always separating the two – business from personal.

At all times, I am are aiming to create one day of unforgettable moments.

What do I do? In short, I like to say I curate love stories. My friends call me the “Curator of Love” because that is just how vital of a role I play when working with my clients. I sell vision. I sell creativity. I sell my love for love. I sell peace of mind. I leverage my professional network, communication skills and creative spark to bring to life the ideas of my clients. I’m known for elevating the overall value and experience of the wedding planning process, making it a lot less stressful for all the decision-makers. I execute to perfection and advocate for my clients from beginning to end. I also mentor those wishing to enter or scale their wedding business within the industry.

What sets me apart? I embody my nickname as the Curator of Love. My personality and my love for what I do shows in the amount of effort each client gets. Every client feels as if they are the only client at all times. I love reminding my clients of the reason we connected in the first place – personalities were drawn to one another. With every client interaction, I make sure that I am showing up my most true and honest self. This allows the client to fall in love with the personality, then the brand. Win-win! After all, who wants to plan a wedding (sometimes for over a year) with someone they can’t even communicate with.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of my brand relevancy and consistency. My logo, brand colors and aesthetic welcome clients with a warm sense of security. It’s elegant, modern, age-conforming and knows no gender or race. I’ve had the pleasure of working with couples of the same racial background, as well as interracial couples, same sex couples, and even dual religion ceremonies. All because they resonated with me, Tifphany Nichol, person and the brand. I pride myself in being a one-woman-show. I so fluidly manage all aspects of my business (as of right now) because that is just how important brand identity, continuity and consistency is to me. Being able to attract the perfect clientele because we have similarities beyond the wedding is really what screams “brand identity” to me.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a mini-version of what I am today. Very meticulous, detail-oriented, solutions-driven, and extremely creative. I loved planning my own birthday parties and always took interest in being on teams working towards a common goal – highly competitive. My mom would further describe me as helpful, pleasant, outgoing, and charismatic, with an in-charge personality. Always leading, rarely, almost never following.
