Community Highlights: Meet Melody Logan of MellyMani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Logan.

Hi Melody, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After completing nail tech school, I started doing pop-up manicures at different pop-up events with other Baltimore women-owned businesses. I was going to homes to provide manicure services after being inspired by my grandmother, who hadn’t been to a nail salon in 20+ years. Being plus size, I see nails and accessories as a size-less way of feeling beautiful. So getting into the nail industry was natural for me but helping others feel beautiful in the skin their in, with the skills they have and the person they are has always been my purpose.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am so fortunate to have an amazing support system. At first, I struggled with comparison because the reason I wanted to get into manicures was to provide a healthy, sanitary and classic manicure to the everyday person. I wasn’t into design or acrylics. So I thought that would hold me back.

I was wrong! I don’t think creating a brand is ever smooth and it wouldn’t be successful without learning opportunities along the way. Sometimes we pitch ideas and they work. Sometimes we pitch ideas and they fail terribly. But we take the lesson out of each experience and use that to propel the brand forward.

We’ve been impressed with MellyMani, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I may be known for manicures but my brand is so much more! Yes, I can give you a healthy, good-looking classic manicure, but I hope what people really take away from our time together, whether it be at the nail table, watching my Instagram stories, or connecting virtually, is that…. you are powerful! You have all it takes. Show up for yourself. Don’t let your past dictate your dreams and push past barriers. You don’t feel great about yourself? Get a mani, put on the outfit that makes you feel your best and do something for you.

My brand will always include nails, whether that be through services or posting inspiration or my own nails. But it will continue to grow into a product boutique. I recently launched my own nail polish and want to add so much more products and items to connect with different women. Most recently, I’ve been remixing looks of average size women and recreating it with plus-size pieces.

I look forward to adding additional services like virtual and cafe coaching sessions. A time to connect with my girl, vibe out and help her on her path to being the best version of herself.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The beauty industry will always be big! As long as there is fashion, there will be trends. Trends keep the industry booming. Self-development and care have taken on a new wave of interest in the past couple of years, so I see this only growing from here. Because my brand also focuses on one’s own confidence, I tap into this industry a bit as well.
