Community Highlights: Meet Cindy Bernstein of Aim 4 Order

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Bernstein.

Hi Cindy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I was at a 4th of July BBQ in 2004 and started talking to someone who was a “Professional Organizer” in Olney. I had never heard of that profession before and was immediately fascinated.

Organizing for others and owning my own business sounded like the greatest job in the world to me. I immediately attended and joined a local meeting of Professional Organizers to start learning all I could. Who knew there was a national organization of Professional Organizers?!

I organized my own home as my first official job and started reading, studying, and being mentored by my Olney connection. My husband and I came up with the name “Aim 4 Order” which captured my philosophy of progress, not perfection, as well as starting with the letter A for priority placement in the phone book! This was all happening while I was still working in my job at a non-profit where I had invested 23 years but wasn’t feeling the same passion as I once had.

I would do organizing jobs on the weekends until, in June 2006, I left my ‘career’ job and officially went full time with Aim 4 Order. What a wonderful ride it’s been. The business has grown over the years and I now have a dedicated team that helps us to serve many clients each year. We offer a variety of services including organizing, downsizing, decluttering, selling valuables, move management services, and estate cleanouts. We love what we do!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Anything worth doing will typically have obstacles and challenges. Competition is one challenge and great service is the way to overcome competition. I am my brand and it has always been of the utmost importance that no one ever feels shame by reaching out for help when already feeling vulnerable and overwhelmed by clutter or disorganization. There were a few lean years when I was not hustling as I once did in marketing my efforts. I signed up with a coach and she whipped me into shape and I haven’t looked back since!

The pandemic was a challenge but thankfully, the real estate market created a flood of home sales and our services were needed to clear out homes as fast as possible. We felt safe going into empty homes and doing our thing with masks on. Local realtors have truly helped my business to have even more growth during the pandemic. Public speaking, teaching at local senior programs, and offering online classes have helped me to spread the word so others learn the skill of organizing and enjoy living with less stuff.

We’ve been impressed with Aim 4 Order LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Aim 4 Order is a professional organizing company that specializes in senior downsizing and move management services. We work side by side with clients, helping them to tackle clutter issues and find lasting order and peace in their homes. We offer estate clean-out services and can sell a wide range of valuables which often covers the cost of clearing out an estate.

We are most proud of the way our clients say we make them feel – we arrive in times of stress, overwhelm, and indecision – and greatly reduce the discomfort they are feeling. Our greatest reward is seeing the joy and relief on clients’ faces when they see mountains of clutter disappear before their eyes.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
People sometimes expect an organizer to have a perfect home.

I like to surprise people by telling them that I was my first client. Having a bunch of young kids reversed any sense of order I had pre-kids and it’s very hard getting organized once you’re in that place of overwhelm and busyness.

But those organizing genes can reappear at any time – and if you never had any in the first place, they can be taught. I love giving hope and help to others!
