Community Highlights: Meet Caroline Kocabay of CAKO Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Kocabay.

Hi Caroline, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Hi all, I’m Caroline Kocabay, and I am the owner of CAKO Wellness Online Fitness Coaching. In 2010, I decided to help people holistically and enrolled in a massage therapy program. I worked primarily with athletes and individuals with injuries during my massage therapy career, propelling my passion for health and wellness. In 2011, I decided to take my health into my own hands and lost 50 pounds over the span of a year.

After working as a massage therapist for five years, I felt limited by my scope of practice. I realized that I wanted to learn more methods to treat clients for injuries, as well as incorporate my passion for fitness and nutrition into my career. In 2016, I enrolled in Towson University’s Occupational Therapy combined Bachelors/Masters program.

My anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, and neurology courses furthered my interest in fitness and led me to my bodybuilding hobby. Although I was supposed to graduate from occupational therapy school in 2020, my last two clinical were delayed due to the pandemic. I used this time to obtain my personal training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and nutrition coaching certification from Precision Nutrition.

During my last two clinical, I worked with patients with orthopedic impairments in a private occupational therapy clinic as well as developing a nutrition and fitness program for patients with significant mental illnesses.

I began taking online fitness coaching clients in January of 2021 and then graduated from occupational therapy school in May of 2021. This brings me to where I am today. I am continuing to help my online coaching clients reach wellness goals while also working as an occupational therapist at Rehabilitation and Wellness Associates, a private clinic in MedStar Union Memorial, located in Baltimore, MD.

At the clinic, I treat patients with various impairments such as carpal tunnel syndrome, rotator cuff injuries, arthritis, tennis elbow, COPD, and stroke.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I did not know anyone in Maryland prior to moving here in 2016, but I’ve developed an excellent network over time. As I mentioned prior, I was initially supposed to graduate from occupational therapy school in 2020. However, I am grateful for the delay because I used this time away from school to develop my online coaching business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about CAKO Wellness?
My online coaching business is CAKO Wellness. I help busy adults lose weight, get stronger and feel better. I provide complete nutrition and fitness coaching. I have an app in which clients receive customized nutrition and workout programs as well as communicate with me daily.

What sets me apart from other online fitness coaches is my occupational therapy background. I keep in mind my clients’ physical injuries as well as emotional needs when developing their programs.
