Community Highlights: Meet Briana Tillman of kDelta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Tillman.

Hi Briana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
kDelta started as an idea between co-workers and has bloomed into something greater than any of us imagined. I have always been drawn to the notion of helping people learn how to keep themselves and their families safe, but I wasn’t sure how exactly to make that happen. Several of my previous workplaces came close to that, like self-defense, hostile environment training, and the federal security field, and all of those places led me to my team and showed us what was missing in the safety and emergency first aid training that was currently available.

Briana is one of the founding members of kDelta with a background in Emergency Management and Criminal Justice. She joined the Anne Arundel County Community Emergency Response Team in 2008, was once the youngest member of the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force, and created and led sexual assault avoidance and defense courses for multiple security companies. Briana holds USCCA Concealed Carry & Home Defense Fundamentals Firearms Instructor, Blue Shield Tactical De-escalation Instructor, and Until Help Arrives Instructor certifications, as well as TECC, Range Safety, and Bloodborne Pathogen certifications. Briana has been involved in live scenario training, including mass casualty events both in and behind the scenes since 2009, with a training and fitness background in Krav Maga and Crossfit for the past ten years.

kDelta is founded on the principle that survival training must be continuously refreshed to keep up with constantly changing threats. Our name, borrowed from the argot of science (k “constant,” Delta “change”), serves as a reminder that growth and change are good and to always strive to be better.

Our team specializes in an advanced understanding of these risks, creating scenario-based trainings focused on preparing for worst-case scenarios.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have been fortunate to have had a relatively smooth path so far. Teamwork really goes a long way. No matter the circumstances, we all had each other so no one or two people had to bear the weight alone.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about kDelta?
kDelta offers training to anyone looking to give themselves and their loved ones a better chance for survival if they are faced with an accident, emergency, or attack. kDelta specializes in the Until Help Arrives program that was formed from NOVA High Threat Responses’ realization that in an emergency, we as a community need to get more people to hospitals and trauma centers alive. Bystanders are the key in that – with proper training, they can be the life preservers until help arrives. The Until Help Arrives course is our main focus right now because of how relevant bystander aid is in the world today.

How do you think about luck?
The amazing connections with people have been the driving force behind kDelta’s success. It’s really the people that make the difference. An abundance of generosity in the form of time, resources, services, mentoring, advice, donated goods, and more has been one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever witnessed. The love and support of the people around us is all the luck we need!
