Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Adams.
Hi Sarah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
11 years ago, I was a nurse working busy nurse shifts and welcomed my first daughter, she had a bit of a rough start which prevented me from returning to work right away. I had a starter camera, and photography was my hobby so I thought I would give it a go and start offering some photo sessions, I didn’t have much training or experience, but I did my best. In that first year, I was able to turn a profit and loved the scheduling flexibility it allowed for me and my daughter. Fast forward to present, and I now run a successful full-time boutique portrait business, have shot so many weddings, hundreds or newborn sessions, as well as families. I have a studio as well as shoot on location. I offer coaching for photographers and business start-up, as well as love to travel and speak at events. It took a few years of intense education, lots of hands on experience, marketing skills, and learning from other coaches that brought me to where I am today. While it hasn’t always been easy, and most days isn’t it incredibly rewarding, and I’m very proud of what I have built. My family is my biggest support system, my children are my “Why” for all of the time and effort invested. Building this business allowed me the freedom to design my life around them and to be present for the things that really matter.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh gosh where to even begin…… I mean, if you’re only faces with smooth roads and easy paths then how will you ever grow, right? Learning how to better market myself, creating work and family life balance, bookeeping, and fine-tuning things to create an incredible client experience. Of course working in a luxury industry mean working evenings and weekends, so I have had to learn to give up certain things and not always able to be present for things, but creating healthy balance helps with that too.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Baltimore Family and Newborn Photographer. While I shoot lots of different things, I specialize in Newborn, Family, and Child Photography through a luxury boutique experience. I pride myself in creating a calm, relaxing atmosphere for my clients and making this a stress-free process that they can enjoy and love being a part of client’s story. Many of my clients have been with me from the start, I’ve been there for weddings, Babies, more children, special events, and so much more! I think what sets me apart is the connection that I create, most of my clients turn into lifelong friends, I get to know their children on their level and stay in touch with them for years.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Oh man… That nothing is ever as you expect it to be, and you must learn to pivot (I can hear the friends scene now), re-focus and keep ongoing. Of course, not being an essential business meant shut down for a while, so I found resourceful ways to stay busy through virtual services, front porch projects, and coaching. This allowed me to still provide for my family while I wasn’t able to have operations as normal.
- My standard services begin at about $750
