Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Watson.
Hi Patricia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been “crafty” and loved to make people laugh. I started my line, as a way to help people express themselves with ACTUAL funny and meaningful things. My brother used to always say, I was Hood Adjacent- not quite hold but right next to it- HOODISH if you will. He said that because of my ability to code-switch EFFORTLESSLY. Through brokenness, despair, cancer, suicidal attempts, losing love, and finding love one thing always brought me out of my passion for creating.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Along the way, I have beat cancer 2 times, currently battling another bout. I have battled anxiety and depression, feel pretty to scams of “sisterhood or alliances” but I NEVER allowed it to break me. It made me bend a bit- BUT NEVER BREAK
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in bringing people’s vision to life. While we do work with big brands, we specialize in catering to the smaller clientele and showing them that they are important and valuable as well. We do small batch orders that are still affordable with great quality and fast turnaround times. We are fun and catching while still being affordable and sustainable. We are able to pivot with the times and still afloat by offering household items (laundry detergents, etc.) at a discounted price and offering couponing classes as well.
How do you think about luck?
We aren’t lucky- WE ARE BLESSED at the end of the day, the vision for Hood Adjacent isn’t just a tee shirt and apparel company, it is a MOVEMENT. While others flew here, I grew here, so I LOVE my city and everything around it and work to not only uplift my community, but communities everywhere. Our stores will be a place where people can come to connect, share, learn, meet people to travel with, laugh together, cry together and learn to live together.
Our store opening soon will also have a cafe, community garden, and host classes open to the community on opening and maintaining a business, finance classes, education, parenting, and other classes that will help sustain and improve the community. This model will be duplicated in other communities until we all can live the dream of breaking every chain! And this will not happen by just “luck.” It can be achieved once we realize that we ARE our brother’s, sisters, and keepers.
