Check Out Megan Horst’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Horst.

Hi Megan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started out with an intense passion for makeup at a young age. I was always good at it and it just seemed to flow so naturally to me. After high school and some time in college, I enrolled in makeup artistry school at Von Lee. After completing the program, I started working freelance and under a mentor and enrolled in cosmetology school at Robert Paul Academy. I pursued many freelance jobs as a makeup artist and worked on growing my portfolio. Once I graduated from cosmetology school, I began a full-time career in the salon. I worked at a hand full of salons for a couple of years at a time but always felt restless and unfulfilled. After many years of feeling like something was missing, I realized that feeling was the entrepreneur in me trying to break out. Leave the security of a successful job at the salon that I had worked hard for was terrifying but in February of 2018, I took the plunge and started off on a journey of my own. The last three years have been both challenging and rewarding. I’m constantly pushing myself to get uncomfortable and learn new things. I’m incredibly passionate about hair makeup and cosmetic tattooing. I love helping woman feel really beautiful and confident. Owning a business is hard work and stressful but I’m so in love with it and feel completely fulfilled with this role in life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d say the road has been pretty smooth. The most frustrating part of it was not knowing why I couldn’t just be happy with the jobs I had. I was always feeling like I needed something more so I’d leave one place and have to start all over again at another. After I did that a few times, I realized it wasn’t the salon I needed to change, it was the role I played in the salon. I needed to do my own thing. That was a long lesson to learn.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist. I specialize in hair makeup and cosmetic tattooing. I’ve asked clients and friends this question before, what makes me unique or sets me apart and mostly all of them say it’s how much I care for my clients and how I’m always striving to know more and constantly learn.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Outgoing! Super energetic and silly. I was also very independent. I loved to play with plastic makeup and pretend I was using real makeup. Like every 30 min, I’d have to reapply. My mom tells a story of when she overheard me telling a friend, “if you don’t let me curl your hair, you’ll have to go home” I still feel bad about that, lol.
