Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Turner.
Hi Lindsay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I remember in third grade, I always wanted to get a French tip nail set. It wasn’t until I graduated from 5th grade, my mom took me to the nail salon and I remember it so perfectly, with a new nail set, they were offering four free nail designs. I was beyond ecstatic. Since that day, I always had a fresh nail set. In college, about 2016, is when I decided I wanted to try to do my own nails. For Christmas, my siblings and I participate in secret Santa and the only gift on my list was a starter acrylic kit. This is where it all began. Though I did graduate with a B.S. in Accounting and I have been working in Public Accounting for three years now, doing nails has always been my passion but I did begin to put my dream on the back burner. The day that changed everything was in August of 2020, my niece said to me, “Aunt Lindsay if you would’ve kept doing nails, you would be a beast by now!” The very next day, I applied at Maryland Institute of Nail Technology (M.I.N.T), which would begin the very next month, September. Nail school was a three months process but after receiving my certificate of completion, it was time for me to apply for the licensing exam. Not to toot my own horn but I knew I was going to pass on the first try, which I did 🙂 I was a fully licensed nail technician by January 6, 2021. March 4th, 2021, I began accepting clients and I couldn’t be happier! I am so happy I decided to follow my heart and do something I love. I still work in Accounting but my ultimate dream is to have my own salon/spa, which I know I will accomplish so be on the lookout!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It could have been smoother but I have learned nothing you want will come easy. I am my hardest critic and at times, I would catch myself comparing my work to others and I want to say never ever do that! When I began to focus on myself rather than what someone else is doing, my work improved. It has been about three months and it makes me so happy when a client walks into my nail room with ideas that test my skills & ability to produce quality work.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed nail technician. I offer manicure, pedicure, and artificial nails services. I would say I am known for the welcoming and personal experience that I give my clients. (Though unicorns nails – which is a nail design, I’m unsure of the creator, are very popular amongst my clients) I am most proud of the way I make my clients feel when they leave my nail room. Ever since a little girl, I have been what some may call a “people pleaser”. I just enjoy seeing others smile and making people happy. What sets me apart from others – this is and has always been my passion and dream. When I am servicing a client, I don’t feel like I am working. It simply is something I love to do. There is no other way for me to explain it.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising that most people may not know about me is that I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. I wanted to teach elementary or high school. I still have thoughts today if I want to teach math (which I know mostly everyone hates). It brings me so much joy helping people and I want the younger generations to realize that being educated is cooler than being cool ~ice cold~ [haha]
