Check Out Kara and Kyle Curry’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara and Kyle Curry.

Hi Kara and Kyle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Kyle loves a good mechanical, electrical, or structural challenge. So during the stresses of a new pandemic that prompted his wife, Kara, to step away from being a bedside nurse, Kyle found joy and peace in the challenges of their 1930’s home. As we worked together on projects around the home, Kara recognized his natural talent and the knack he has to research, studying, and executing a build. Now, almost two years after this all began, we bought and are embarking on another fixer-upper home renovation project: this one, a 1960s rancher.

Our bios on our website tell our true story:
Kyle: While working for the federal government as an IT Specialist for the past 13 years has afforded my family stability and security, my true passion is working with my hands. In a world full of things to fix, I’m always studying how something works, fits, or functions. My wife will tell you I have that special mind that thinks about how to put something back together even when it’s in perfect condition. While watching me perfect my skills with a miter saw, my wife and ultimate hype woman thought my talent was too great to keep confined to the walls of our home, and within a short time, my skills have sharpened, and the quality of my work has been sought out by many in the DMV area. But even with all the love, what I’m most honored to be is a family man. Although I put a great deal of energy into perfecting my craftsmanship, the time and effort I put into being a present and involved husband and father are where my heart lies. Our marriage and our kids, Cole and Austin, are our priority. But understanding that passions don’t die, we have dreams to fulfill and spaces to upgrade! That’s why we work to help families just like you steal back your space by creating custom, high-end finishes and pieces that can energize any uninspired space with the kids in tow.

Kara: I temporarily left the workforce to devote my time to my children due to the pandemic. As a registered nurse working at the bedside in the hospital for nearly a decade, it was not a decision that was easy to make. However, that decision has allowed me to focus more on my family and an educational pursuit and career shift already underway. It was also the catalyst for the birth of K.Curry Craftsman. Forever a lover of education, I recently graduated with my Masters in Bioethics and now working as an ethicist. Along with cutting wood, filling in nail holes, sanding, staining, and painting while wrangling children, I am the voice of K.Curry Craftsman, creating content and corresponding with clients from inquiry to project completion. I take pride in ALL of my roles as a wife, mother, helper, and project manager and am delighted to add this labor of love to my endeavors.

Cole and Austin: As two Curry Craftsmen in the making, we are constantly on the sidelines watching our mom and dad while sometimes getting in the mix. We look forward to the day when we can be right by our Daddy’s side in the shop or onsite. We may grow to love this work, or we may not. Either way, we will gain valuable practical skills, learn how to problem solve, and see what work ethic, dedication, and commitment look like.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The uncertainties of the early days of the pandemic were a challenge for everyone. Taking a leap of faith and leaving my job as a nurse added another layer of anxiety. Additionally, starting a business takes a lot of trial and error, blood, sweat, and tears. We had to navigate the land as new business owners and this new space of being married and running a business together. Working with your spouse introduces you to new layers of the relationship that need to be unpacked. Exploring those layers and examining how they affect you as a couple and business partner is paramount to moving forward and being successful. We had to learn each other’s lanes. However, we are individuals who believe in God and have a strong faith. He has helped us through these times, and we are grateful for that faith foundation.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
