Today we’d like to introduce you to Lil Perc.
Lil Perc, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started making memes in 2016 and began working under the name Lil Perc the Thot God and producing music in 2018 following the suicide of my best friend.
Writing music became a means of therapy for me to cope with her death. I eventually integrated my music identity with my memes and thus @lilperc666 was born.
I like to believe that everything I do artistically serves to honor my friend while simultaneously granting me a means of coping, growing, and helping others who may be facing similar traumas or obstacles as me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has had many ups and downs.
I’ve dealt with a lot of censorship from social media platforms, discrimination because of my identity as a black transgender woman, and financial hurdles that have seemed insurmountable at times.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My body of work includes memes, graphic design, music, social media and brand management, video editing, and photography (and probably more that I’m forgetting lol).
I currently make content and do brand management for a local vegan restaurant, Dodah’s Kitchen, aside from running my own social media pages and doing freelance art and design.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Stay true to yourself and your vision, but keep an open mind.
