Check Out Geri McCarter’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geri McCarter.

Hi Geri, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It was the mentorship that someone invested into me that made want to do for others. In 7th grade, step became a huge reason why I showed up to school it became my motivator and my reason why I had to be on my best behavior and have decent grades. Step opened my eyes to the possibilities of college as a teenager no one in my family had went to college my step coach helped me see I too could make it. That dream became a reality when I attended Coppin State University and then pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I was able to see the global impact of mentorship and how I could use step to do so. My first coaching job at the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women coaching the World-Famous Lethal Ladies of BLSYW Step Team was a huge success we traveled the world and competed nationally representing the city of Baltimore. Once I mastered how impactful this program was, I knew I had the opportunity to reach more girls so I founded Coach G Academy, Inc. on March 26th 2021. Our mission is to engage youth into education and mentoring using STEP.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
NO! I have learned so much in the 6 years I have been a step coach. I have made many mistakes, done things that I wish I could take back but I every single pitfall has taught me a lesson. Being the Founder and CEO of Coach G Academy, Inc. has taught me how to be a full spectrum entrepreneur. One of our biggest struggles is funding, as a new organization many people are reluctant to give even though I have a track record of successful outcomes branching out with my own has had made the financial responsibility completely on me. I have learned to be a CEO, CFO, and COO.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I got my start with the Lethal Ladies of BLSYW step team those 16 girls changed my life as a first-year coach and gave me the groundwork, challenges, and feedback I needed to be an effective coach. My husband is the one who encouraged me to do this program to begin with. My middle school step coach who introduced me to not only step but the possibility for higher learning. Mr. James Simms. All of my God-Mothers who have taken me in as their own and given me jewels as if I was their own child. My dear mother and grandmother the reason I exist thanks so much for instilling in my confidence, whit, and charisma without you both I would be lost.
