Check Out Dwayne Gayle’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dwayne Gayle.

Hi Dwayne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Thinking back, I grew up playing sports and into music. I never imagined picking up a camera would change my life forever. While attending The Art Institute of Washington for Web Design, I realized a key component to create effective websites “Images.” I purchased an entry-level camera with the money I saved from working at the air and space museum in D.C. and started learning how to take photos. At this point, I had zero experience operating a camera, however, I was determined to add my personal touch to the websites I created for class assignments. The task seemed simple but little did I know photography and more importantly the business of photography had a process of its own that came with a lot of challenges.

A year later, I decided it was time to take this more seriously. The world of photography inspired me in ways I never experienced before. I became more observant of my surroundings and found shapes, colors, textures more fascinating every day. A huge contributor to my success is social media, I instantly had access to other photographers professional and amateur. I spent months watching tutorials and practicing all forms of photography. Mainly because I like to capture a variety of different imagery. Each picture has its own story and feeling. Having the ability to capture that is extremely gratifying.

With all that said. We are here in 2021 and the idea of photography has manifested far more than just a hobby. “Photo Family” is the name of my business and I am Dwayne Gayle your #1 Residential Photographer. We have been in business since 2017 and so far we have captured over 350 families, 100 events, and even quite a few pets. I am thankful for the position I have today and look forward to continuing to pursue my goals and contribute to the family name.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Without a doubt, there have been struggles along the way. Everything from financing equipment, figuring out the science, and most importantly structuring the business aspect.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
A majority of my clientele base is focused on families, headshots, and birthday celebrations. I am also heavily influenced by street photography which started my journey of capturing the world around me and sharing my perspective. I’m most proud of my attention to detail in style, colors, and patterns along with developing a love for working with families. What sets me apart from others is my ability to organically connect with new people and almost instantly finding common ground to develop long-lasting relationships.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about our city is the variety of cultures and lifestyles I experience working with a new family. What I least like would probably be the traffic, however, it’s to be expected from a top major city.
