Check Out Crisean’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crisean.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a singer-songwriter, producer, and music artist born in Baltimore, Maryland, with an infusion of Pop/Soul/R&B. In 2014 I released “Sound Approved” (Demo Edition) – EP my first music project. To promote the project, Crisean had to do what every independent artist has to do and that’s everything yourself. Ireached out to local papers, blogs, and performance events. In March 2014 I graced my first cover in the press “Baltimore OutLoud.” I performed in various Open Mic Nights and events across the City of Baltimore including my most memorable “Baltimore Pride 2014”. In 2015 I embarked on a promotional tour “Crisean The Promo Tour” and performed for HyperGender Burlesque at WOW Café Theatre in the big city of New York as well as Washington D. C’s “Capital Trans Pride,” “Black Pride” and has been featured on The Huffington Post.

Since the age of 8, I have been singing Disney songs around the house and putting on shows for family members. I studied music at Baltimore City Community College. Being inspired by contemporary artists my whole life such as Beyonce, Britney Spears, and Usher, BCCC is where I fell in love with Soul Music and legendary icons such as Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, and Elvis Presley.

In the summer of 2018, I released my debut album “Opus: I” on June. 8 2018. I took inspiration from my life experiences and poured it into the record. “Opus: I” is my labor of love, growth, and forgiveness. The album is influenced by a wide range of R&B, Pop, Soul, and Baltimore Club music as well as artist such as Beyonce, Maxwell, Otis Redding, Al Green, and Britney Spears to name a few.

In 2014 – 2017 I moved to NYC, which rock my life to the core. I am not the same person that I was when I left. I couldn’t stand Baltimore City and always wanted to leave, but being in NYC made me appreciate everything that Baltimore has taught me. When the 2015 protest happened and I watched from NYC, I had never been more proud of my city in my life. Fighting for injustices is something that I always strive to do. Now I’m working on new music, and I can’t wait to put it out.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not having resources and money is the hardest part of being a music artist. I have been working at it since 2013. It has a loud me to open up and come out of my shell. I can say that I’m not as shy as I once was. It has taught me to go after what I want because most things just don’t come to you.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love music, it’s what I’ve always wanted to do. I’m most proud of the fact that I keep going for it. I look back at the things that I’ve done and I’m in disbelief. I look back and say to myself, who the hell do you think you are lol. I’m just making music because I love it.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
