Check Out Candice Joyner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Joyner.

Hi Candice, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Amala Whips started because my son, Caleb, developed eczema at the young age of three. In order to cure his rashes, I switched his bath products to unscented soaps and lotions from big label companies. This change did not work and his outbreaks spread and got worse. I wanted the best for my child, so I did the research and found organic plant-based products could be the best option for us. I learned about the neem plant, which helps reduce the appearance of rashes and could help eliminate the constant itchiness that eczema brings. My very first whipped butter was our Extreme Neem butter and I saw the changes within the first week of using.

I wanted to share this information with everyone that I could, so I came up with a list of organic beauty products that I wanted to make and the rest is history. Today, Amala Whips has collaborated with two local small businesses in Baltimore, MD. We were able to put some of our products on the shelf at The Greenhouse at The Good Neighbor. We also were given a chance to have our Seasonal scent, Plum Freesia, featured in a Spring subscription box by The Katra Box. To stay accessible, we do pop-up shops and flea markets around the city. Amala Whips is a women-owned and operated business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Things have been tough starting a business during the pandemic, but the opportunities that we have been given have been amazing. We have built relationships with other local businesses in the city and continue to grow our customer base. At this time, we focusing on growing our customer base in order to scale.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in organic skincare and haircare products with plant-derived ingredients. We are known for are our whipped body butters, herbal infused body oils, and hair care oil treatments. Each ingredient is thoroughly studied to ensure our customers get the results they are looking for. Across our social media platforms, we give advice on how daily eating and exercise habits play a huge role in glowing skin and hair. We want to encourage better eating habits and positive thinking to as many people as we can.

I am most proud of how well our products work and how fast our customers see improvements in the quality of their skin or hair. What sets us apart from other companies is our level of branding and professionalism. Our branding draws in customers. We make it a point to give exceptional customer service to every customer. If you see us at a pop-up, we have samples on hand for the customer to feel and smell any of our butters and they are able to smell any of the herbal infused oils before purchase.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about our city is how easy it is to build relationships. Our city is fairly small, so if you meet the right person, that can easily spiral into many beneficial relationships down the line. I love connecting with other business owners in the city and engaging in collaborations. I dislike how other cities perceive us as a whole. There are some beautiful people and cities in Baltimore. I wish people knew more about the good things that we have in our city vs. the bad.
