Meet Anagelica Gonzalez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anagelica Gonzalez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Like many, in high school, I took a photography 101 course that focused on film photography. I remember I would go in on my lunch breaks and after school to work on my projects! I really enjoyed learning the mechanics of manually using a camera and remember my instructor telling me that cameras are like eyes, your shutter speed is like blinking, your aperture is similar to how your pupils process light, and so on. I would say this was the start of my true passion for photography, and I always had a camera capturing my life and family memories ever since.

Later on, when I studied at Towson University, I realized that if I take it serious and work hard enough, I could make my hobby into an actual career. From that point on, I grabbed my camera, put on YouTube and went to work. I began doing grad shoots on campus and continued to grow from there. I began traveling to other campuses in and out of state and really began to build a clientele!

Today I have now grown my business to provide portrait and event photography services throughout the DMV and Tri-state area. I also have my partner, who has joined and helped me build my work! I went from capturing grad portrait sessions to capturing professional headshots, weddings, milestone birthdays, gender reveals and more. I also really began to build an online presence by creating social media accounts and an online portfolio to showcase my work. I believe that part of having a successful business requires marketing your work consistently. Thankfully, I majored in a related field that helped me navigate this aspect of my brand.

With all of these factors tied together, I’ve been able to have a successful business and am thankful to say that I have bookings leading through 2022. My goal is to build my own in-home studio within the next year and really expand and master studio photography.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say my biggest challenge would be myself. I’ve always compared my work to others and it’s caused me to doubt my abilities. I see so many other photographers who have “better” equipment, space, and software experience than I had and it’s always made me feel like I’d never get there.

I continued to push through these negative thoughts, however, and continue to educate myself and practice. Looking back at my work from 2015 then I first started Audaz Photography, I see how much my hard work is paying off. There’s been so much growth and I only see this growth continuing!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in portrait and event photography. I cover family and individual sessions ranging from standard portraits (such as newborn, engagement, holiday, etc.) to special themed shoots. I cover big events such as weddings, baby showers, birthday parties, reunions and more! I don’t really limit my service scope and really am open to any requests within reason.

I would say I’m best known for my graduation sessions simply because that’s where I started my career. I really like getting creative with these shoots because I feel that these are the times where individuals want to show off who they truly are, their accomplishments, and their passion. From decked-out grad caps to fun greek life para, the possibilities are endless and I really love each experience.

At this moment, I’d say I’m most proud of my latest studio portraits. As mentioned, this has been something I have been and am still working on. I hope to continue to improve my technique and eventually get creative with them!

I don’t really put any limitations on my work. I’m open to any ideas from clients and really try to make their vision come to life, even if it’s something I’ve never done before. I am always transparent, try my best, and put my clients first!

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I always invite anyone to follow my online platforms! I have an “open door” (well, virtual door anyways) policy and encourage people to shoot me a DM, email or text for any requests. I have experience with branded and styled shoots as well and love collaborating with other creatives. You can find me on Instagram, Facebook, and my online portfolio.
