Community Highlights: Meet Andrea Harvey of ASH Interiors and Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Harvey.

Hi Andrea, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I have been in the kitchen and bath design space since 1999. I always wanted to have my own business but found myself afraid and often discouraged to take the leap. Prior to my 1st divorce (yes first) I opened my design firm in 2010…I had to put my dreams on hold as I found myself divorce, working multiple jobs, and juggling being a single mom. I spent the next 5 years juggling a full-time job as a luxury manufacture representative and a growing design business. In 2018, I felt it was time to take the plunge again and leave the W2 job and focus on ASH. I spent the next few years growing our brand…we were invited to speak at multiple design trade shows and even traveled to Korea to shoot an episode of House Hunters International with a client. In 2020, a decade after taking the step to start a business, we decided to open a brick-and-mortar location in Historic Ellicott City. Little did we know was on the horizon…COVID, Divorce, and Europe…

Despite the obvious challenges of COVID-19…we were able to create new business opportunities. We were able to fine-tune our virtual services and now service clients in 8 states and 3 countries.

On the personal side…my 2nd marriage was not able to survive the reality of COVID, and the weak foundation quickly crumbled.

Another highlight post-pandemic was connecting virtually with an amazing woman based in Italy. The purposeful connection made by my PR Firm has changed the trajectory of our business and the future of ASH Interiors and Design.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
ABSOLUTELY NOT… Not 1 but two divorces

Juggling business and motherhood

Pandemic

But I continue to say that our story is not over. We continue to not only survive but thrive despite the challenges.

As you know, we’re big fans of ASH Interiors and Design. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
ASH Interiors and Design (ASH I&D) is a full-service design firm, assisting clients with a wide range of projects including kitchen and bath design and redesign, interior styling, space planning. We partner with contractors and builders to make your dream space a reality. Our specialty areas are kitchen and bathrooms because of Andrea’s 20 years of experience in the space.

We have successfully worked with clients all over the world…our “hybrid” services have become are largest growth segment since 2020.

We work in the light commercial space and were proud to work on an exciting non-profit space (The 3rd) located in Howard County. We continue to have diverse projects that stretch our design muscles.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Our success comes from a personalized experience. Despite most clients being drawn to the trends…we find ways to create spaces that reflect not only our client’s personality but lifestyle. We have a 97% closing rate on all project leads…we believe it is because we create design concepts that are relatable and attainable. We want our clients to feel that we “hear” them and create spaces that reflect their vision and goals.
