Meet Maria Perez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Perez.

Hi Maria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My name is Brenda, I’m 22 years old and I am a travel and fashion content creator living in New York. I grew up in Mexico in a small city called Cuernavaca and after I graduated, I decided to move to the US for an experience abroad.

When I first moved here, I have to admit that it was very hard because New York isn’t like the movies so I found myself focusing on the bad things and I was thinking on moving back to Mexico because of that but one rainy day I felt like going for a walk and I found a beauty event that was happening at The Vessel, it was the anniversary of a brand called Ipsy and they went all out for this event! I had so much fun and meet amazing people, it was raining and I ended up looking like a wet dog but that didn’t matter to me because that day I realized that the city has so much to offer and it was on me to make of my year abroad the best or the worst experience of my life and so I changed my mind set and decided that I was going to fall in love with New York City.

That same day I created my first video: “What I spend in a day in NYC,” I uploaded it without any expectations but for my surprise, it had an amazing response and so that motivated me to continue creating content!

This has let me to amazing opportunities like attending Fashion Week, partnering with brands that I love, been invited to openings and events around the city and also this lead me to finding the most amazing people ever that ultimately became my family which is something you need in a city like this, you need your rock, and for me, they are my rock.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road; living in New York, in general, is not easy but my biggest struggle has been being far from my family; I miss them every day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I majored in Business Innovation and Marketing and soon after that, I started working in a magazine back in Mexico that made me fall in love event more with the fashion world. I’m still part of that magazine but now I also work here in the US, and I do social media which also became my job.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am very shy; it doesn’t seem that way because I put my everyday life in social media but in real life, it takes me some time to open up to someone.
