Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Valentine.
Hi Rebekah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Thank you, Voyage Magazine, for featuring Beauty by Bek, LLC, in your article. It is an honor. For those who do not know me, my name is Rebekah Valentine, but most people call me Bekah or Bek. I am the owner of Beauty by Bek, LLC. I have been referred to as a “baby hustler” from a young age. I have genuinely always just loved to work. I put my whole heart and soul into anything I do. I am an Enneagram 3 through and through, IYKYK! My career journey began in 2018 when I signed up as a consultant for MARY KAY Cosmetics. Within three short months, I was ranked in the top 2% of sales in the company as the Youngest Sales Director in the State of Maryland, leading a team of almost 100 women.
From there, I began working as a make-up artist for a prestige bridal company that kept me busy nearly every weekend. To further my skills and expand my service offerings, I obtained my Volume Lash Certification through Borboleta. I attended their Advanced Artist Academy in Baltimore, Maryland, in the Fall of 2019. After my Lash certification, I knew that I had found my passion. I had no idea how to hold my tweezers or place a lash, but I knew I wanted to be good at it someday. I would stay up late into the night watching lash videos and making lash fans in my bed. Upon completing my certification, I accepted a position at an upscale salon in Columbia, Maryland. A year later, I was promoted to Operations Manager. In March of 2021, I decided to add tanning to my service offering! Many of my lash clients would come to their appointment having received a botched Spray tan from random tanning salons. To better serve them, I learned how to give my clients the perfect custom airbrush tan for all their special events.
Beauty by Bek, LLC, was born and is growing fast! In September 2022, I decided to leap a faith and venture out independently. I operate out of a private suite inside Chiseled Life Fitness Center in Columbia, Maryland. Chiseled Life is a 24-hour gym that functions as a comprehensive training facility. They offer personal training services, nutrition guidance, and recovery to help members achieve their fitness goals!
With 5 years of experience in the beauty industry, my mission remains true; to impact women in ways that promote beauty and confidence in their skin. I love what I do, and I love the people I get to encounter and do life with. Every day is filled with different conversations with my clients, which is my favorite part of this whole industry. I love the impact I get to make on my clients and the impact they have on me. So many of my clients are truly like family to me! We laughed so hard that their gel pads came off their eyes and cried over the loss and hard situations that life throws our way. It is both honoring and humbling to serve them. It is so much more than just offering a service to me. I pray and hope that people feel rejuvenated when they come to an appointment. I hope they leave feeling more beautiful than ever. I am excited to see where my business takes me in 2023! My next step in my business will be to hire an apprentice this upcoming January and help guide her through this amazing industry!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I heard a quote recently that said, “Every next level of your life will demand a greater version of you.” Anything worth doing comes with challenges, growing pains, and overcoming obstacles. I have been blessed to have been surrounded by successful women throughout my career in the beauty industry, strong women to help guide and mentor me to where I am today. One of the most challenging aspects of my journey has been deciding to start Beauty by Bek, LLC. Owning your own business takes time and effort. Growing up in an entrepreneur’s home, I know it can be “feast or famine.” It can be a mental game. However, I believe when you live out God’s purpose for your life, your adversaries start working overtime. And the voices of those people who want you to fail or simply your doubts can be paralyzing. I feared my clients wouldn’t stick with me, I wouldn’t be successful enough, or I didn’t have what it takes to do it. Even though you have a ton of supporters cheering you on, sometimes the negativity rings louder. So if you are reading this and are nervous about taking that “next step” in your career or personal life, can I shout, “GO FOR IT!” Don’t let fear hold you back any longer. Let God use the challenges to grow you into a greater version of YOU! Prove the Nah-sayers wrong and surprise yourself! Life is too short to be complacent.

I am Borboleta Lash certified. I provide services specializing in classic, hybrid, volume, and mega-volume eyelash extensions. I also offer Custom Organic airbrush tanning services and make-up artistry. Soon I will be adding brow services to my menu, so keep an eye out for those services to come!
What do you think about luck?
Honestly, I don’t believe in good or bad luck or even karma. I think that if you are honest, genuine, and work hard with good intentions, God will give you favor. Acting out of anger or jealousy only leads to destruction. I have encountered many “character-building moments” that have humbled me. I’ve decided that a leader does not blame others, takes responsibility for themselves, and keeps moving forward. I am thankful for these hard lessons and know that I certainly have more growing to do. If we stop growing, we stop leading.
