Meet Jasmine Price of JP Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Price.

Hi Jasmine, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hair, nails, and makeup have always been my top interests. In 2018 I decided to bring my talents to life, and that’s when my journey began. I started off doing nails in my small room at my mom’s house and had friends come over to be my models for makeup so I could build my portfolio. Despite not having my own space, I did not let that stop me. I traveled to clients with my supplies and portable nail table & even worked out of a family member’s dining area to service clients. I took a break to plan out my vision and gain more knowledge on all aspects of the services I wanted to provide. Fast forward to 2019 when my husband and I became homeowners, and one day, I came home from a trip to a suprise of him remodeling our second bedroom into a beauty studio. Shortly after, in April 2020, I took a leap of faith and launched my brand, “JP Beauty Co”. My business took off in ways I never even expected, and from that point on, I knew I had to keep going. During the pandemic, I sold out of hundreds products every time l launched, such as lash strips, press-on nails, makeup brushes, eyeshadow palettes, and more! In April 2021, I decided to invest in my craft and enroll in school to become a licensed nail technician & also pick up a new hustle by taking a body sculpting class to become a certified body sculptor. A few weeks later, I found out I was expecting, and unfortunately, shortly finding out about my new blessing, I was let go from my full-time job as a bank teller. While facing that challenging obstacle, I told myself that it was a blessing in disguise because that’s the only way I would’ve put my all into my business anyways, and that’s exactly what I did. I became an entrepreneur while pregnant, taking body sculpting clients, nail clients, teaching nail courses, and running my online stores. I worked up until I was 8 months pregnant, and once my son came into my life, although he is my biggest and greatest blessing, becoming a new mom, a stay-at-home mom at that, and trying to run multiple businesses was very difficult and caused me to lose motivation over the momths. I launched a side hustle called “Cake Jars by JP,” where I would make cake jars and cake trays for customers to earn a little extra money on the side, which also has been successful. Creating content has also always been my thing; I love to cook, create videos of my recipes, daily mom life videos, and more which gave me exposure and the opportunity to work with different brands recently. I was a stay-at-home mom for 9 months, and now I am back working, trying to figure out the route I want to take for my businesses and working on the rebrand of JP Beauty Co. I am focused and determined to get back on track with my businesses; my main goal is to stay consistent, not only for myself but for my supporters and my family. I owe it to myself and everyone else who believes in me.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been bumpy, but each bump I faced has allowed me to learn more about myself, what I need to focus on, and areas that need improvement. The main struggle along I’ve faced a long the way is becoming a new mom and a stay-at-home mom. It was a challenge for me to be a stay-at-home mom and take care of baby, keep up with the house, try to get rest, and run multiple businesses.

As you know, we’re big fans of JP Beauty Co. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
JP Beauty Co is a small black-owned business specializing in beauty, cosmetic, and personal care products and services located in Maryland. JP Beauty Co offers lash strips, custom press-on nail sets, a nude lip gloss collection as well as nail supplies and classes for beginner nail techs. As many call it… “A one-stop shop.” JP Beauty Co is mainly known for nails services & products as well as our cosmetic line. I am most proud of my beginner nail classes and nail kits that have allowed beginner nail techs to start their journey. Being able to teach and help my students invest in a new skill that can take them far in so many different ways is the reason I love what I do! Seeing my students start their nail journey, perfecting their craft, staying consistent, sending in progress photos, and having me as their mentor to keep pushing makes it all worth it.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to those who are starting out is to never compare your journey to anyone else’s. There could be a thousand people doing the same thing as you, but no one can do it like you, and that what makes you and your business unique. Consistency is key and will take you a long way. Something I wish I knew what I started out is that organization is key and will be beneficial to you and your business in many ways. There have been many times where I was so excited to announce my next steps where I didn’t sit and plan my execution and expectations from my ideas for my brand. I would tell others to never rush the process, instead trust the process. Take your time, stay consistent, be confident, never compare yourself to others and enjoy the journey. It’s a marathon and not a race.
