Meet Kelsey Parker of ThinkBlack

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Parker.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic and racial tensions following the murder of George Floyd, I couldn’t help but notice the racial disparities in the US.

According to the Washington Post, in 2020, due to the pandemic, the number of Black business owners was reduced by over 40%. For me, this was alarming and I wanted to do something to spotlight positive things in the Black community while the world’s eyes were on us. Thus, ThinkBlack was born.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges I have faced after founding ThinkBlack has been managing my time and responsibilities. I had to adjust to being an entrepreneur along with my responsibilities as a student-athlete and active member of my school community while still being social and enjoying my teenage years.

It has also been difficult to fund ThinkBlack without compromising our mission of having an affordable platform for Black-owned businesses and professionals.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about ThinkBlack, LLC?

What I love most about Baltimore is the amount of talent in our city. We have so many visionaries, entrepreneurs, and creatives who are often overlooked due to community violence overshadowing our reputation.
