Inspiring Conversations with Olivia Dominic of Liv Evon Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Dominic.

Hi Olivia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since I was young, earrings have been a passion of mine, to the point where, after a while. I started being dubbed the go-to “earring friend” because of the plethora of colorful, unique, and different-sized pieces I’d collected over the years, some of which I had for decades. Since then, I’ve enjoyed sharing my love for statement pieces by lending out articles I owned or shopping for items that inspired and added to one’s unique style. This sparked a drive in me to open my earring boutique as I had so much fun finding fun and elegant pieces, and I saw how much my taste was shared with others from the compliments I’d received. It wasn’t until the pandemic that I decided to cash in on my dream to open a shop and start Liv Evon Designs.  A passion project turned business where I not only sell sensitive-skin friendly earrings and additional jewelry (i.e., necklaces, anklets, and bracelets), but I also design and make them myself!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes and no – the smoothest part about this whole process was creating the branding and aesthetic of the pieces I wanted to sell, and that’s because I have always been a super visual person. I have a fairly strong understanding of the design aesthetic I want around me. When it came to choosing my brand’s color theme, website layout, packaging designs, and the look and feel of my pieces, it was a straightforward process that gave me a uniform presence across the board. My brand is me on a plate.

The hard part came when I learned that business is all about consistency and organization. During my first few months in, I had a decent routine of how often I would make and release pieces. Still, as life got busier, I would jump ship until I had time again to put into it, and believe me, it took a lot of time, especially since I was an online-only business where finding customers was a bit trickier than in-person. Almost two months went by, with minimal sales, before I knew something had to change. Customers like consistency, humans like consistency, and I saw firsthand how important it was. Since then, I’ve kept a very regular schedule for myself. New products release the same day each month, I pop up at local markets every weekend across the DMV, and I dedicate a certain amount of time to social media each week. This has allowed me to grow my business, which increased my sales and elevated the shopping experience my customers have with me.

What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I’m hoping I can continue to elevate my business by surprising myself with new designs, understanding the styles my customers really latch to, and hopefully balance it all out in a workable way with my personal life. More simply put, I want to be able to continue enjoying being a designer and owner for years to come – being creative has always been one of my first passions in life and I’m really enjoying living it through as an artisan.
