Today we’d like to introduce you to Jania Mckenzie.
Hi Jania, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Fashioned in favor was birthed out of darkness pain, and hurt….
When I found out I was expecting my 3rd child I experienced my first depressive season… at the time my marriage was in shambles and we were talking divorce… so finding out I was pregnant completely rocked my world, I immediately said to myself why is this happening… my pregnancy was a wave of ups and downs emotionally and my marriage was barely making it… once I gave birth to my beautiful daughter, postpartum kicked in and it was kicking my behind…
I was crying every day, I was unable to breastfeed because I couldn’t produce milk because I wasn’t eating, this went on for months and no one had a clue what I was going through…. One night I cried for what seemed like an eternity, I didn’t have anyone I felt like I wanted to bother so I just started talking to the “ceiling” I was angry, I was hurting I was so fragile, and was completely broken, I cried myself to sleep…
I woke up the next day and I felt different… I didn’t know what that feeling was then, but I know now it was the beginning of my transformation… and each day after that I cried less and less I began to go from why me to why not me…
That was my purging season God literally made me throw up everything I had known before Him, and it was the hardest thing I had ever done, but I kept going through it…. And healing began
I was suddenly on a mission to find my purpose, what was I on this Earth to do, God had brought me through all of this ugliness for a reason… This began my season of surrender, I prayed daily for God to use me as he saw fit, God what is it that you would have me do to bring glory and honor to your name…
Then one day it happened! I was washing clothes and as I was moving from the washer to the dryer, the vision for Fashioned In Favor popped into my head the way that electricity fills a light bulb… the name, the mission, and the impact it would have was all laid out… at that moment I knew God had spoken!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! Some of the biggest struggles were me… Did I struggle with feeling worthy, and capable and often wondered God why me? I didn’t wanna be that girl that embarrassed God… How do you live that down? Lol.
I still deal with those insecurities from time to time but I’ve learned to understand that those feelings come right at the point of a breakthrough or when God is elevating me to a new level.
So when I feel those feelings I know something great is on its way!
We’ve been impressed with Fashioned In Favor, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Fashioned In Favor is a Christian Lifestyle brand that is dedicated to encouraging millennial believers to recognize who they are and WHOSE they are in Christ.
Our scripture-based apparel stands in the gap between God’s Kingdom and the Culture.
Our mission is to inspire and really walk alongside other believers that are tryna figure this whole thing out, strengthening and deepening our relationship with God, understanding perfection isn’t the goal…
Fashioned In Favor is so much more than words on t-shirts we are a community. We’ve done dozens of in-person events, and monthly devotional challenges, and we’ll be hosting our very first meet-up this year.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Resilience… I’ve been through the storm, but I’m still here. I’ve never been a quitter or one to give up easily. And if I’m honest, sometimes I find myself sticking around in situations way past the expiration date, but it’s just like God, to turn something that can be looked at as a weakness into a superpower.
