Meet Sharia Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharia Jones. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Sharia was born in Philadelphia but was raised in San Diego, California until the age of 8. Returning back to Philadelphia I was always known for my crazy fashion. I never really felt like I fit in with anyone so for most of my school years, I stayed to myself. Well, I tried to my homemade outfit was starting to get the attention of the upper classmates. So, I started to charge for custom pieces like cutting your jeans and custom tee shirts. This is when I realized how creative I was. At the age of 15, I got my 1st job working downtown at city blue one of the hottest urban stores at the time. This job created excess for all of Philly’s entertainers. And I started to create a styling clientele.

Everyone trusted my style and opinion. I began to network with local photographers, styling models, and choreography fashion shows for local high schools. but it wasn’t until her late teens I moved to the suburban part of PA and attended Pennwood High School. And that’s where She fell in love with Fashion. She got assigned a sewing class that She just couldn’t get enough of.

For my senior project, I decided to partner with a few of my friends and choreograph a fashion show which was a big success we were featured cover Delaware county‘s newspaper for our creative work. My model career started also started in high school with photo shoots from local photographers, then walking in local shows. Hair commercials and more. Following high school, I attended the Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Where I received my Bachelor in Fashion Merchandise and Management. While attending Cheyney I worked two jobs in fashion to afford college. I also was the glam lady on campus everyone knew they could come to me to get their micro braids done and custom outfits.

In 2010 I lost my mother losing her was like losing me. My mom was a single mother but she always made sure we were best friends. After her death, I became very depressed and this caused weight gain which caused more depression before I know it. It felt like the dream was gone. I wasn’t that top model anymore; I became that cute big girl. In 2014 I found a piece of me that was missing for years. I attended the 1st NYC plus fashion show. I saw nothing like it. Women that look like me are shaped like me being recognized for their beauty and confidence on the runway. It was my dream. And I had to be a part of its women on the runway that look like me. Before leaving the show, I network with women in the industry. I asked questions, got contacts, and made new friends. who would have ever guessed that show would give me the courage and confidence to pursue my passion? I looked back on my past in the industry and I’m thankful for the criticism that help me sharpen my skills. I know the hard work and dedication will pay off and maybe one day I’ll be someone else’s motivation. Since then I have been featured in the following…

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been an easy road. Especially in the modeling. Going to auditions and they tell you that they love you but they don’t have designers to fit you hurts. But they didn’t stop me I continue to keep applying myself until I started breaking barriers the same people that were telling me no are now telling me yes. This shows that persistence and dedication will get you far.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The things that set me apart from the rest are. That I am able to do all of my passions my 9 to 5 job is I am a big and tall stylist and when I clock out. I am a curvy model/stylist. I am known for making people Beautiful. I have the gift to bring out the best in people.

Through my contagious positive attitude and my trendy style, I am able to turn any room into a walking fashion show. I am most proud of the fact that I never stop and never quit. No matter how many No’s I hear. I won’t stop. My saying is if the shoes fit I’m going to walk in them lol. Hey sometimes even if they don’t fit are still going to walk.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid has taught me to think outside the box. One income is never enough. Covid helped push me to get an online boutique. called Bossy Glam Club. Our slogan is she’s more than just a pretty face she’s a BOSS. This means yes she’s pretty but there is much more to her. Women have many hats we wear which makes us all bosses.

I feel as if it wasn’t for the free time that I had and the lack of income during that time. Then I would’ve never thought of starting my own. I would remain comfortable with bringing in profits for corporate business only.
