Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Ramsey .
Hi Shannon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up listening to all the best singers, Patti, Whitney, Luther, Phyllis, etc. Just a young, extremely shy girl from Baltimore who didn’t believe I could pursue or follow my dreams until I saw brandy on the screen. Things turned out when I dropped out of MSU and moved to Germany. There, I saw people doing what they loved and not just what they had to do. I returned home, re-enrolled at MSU, graduated w/Liberal Arts degree & have been on my journey ever since. I started my music company, Sundar Music LLC, a few years ago, and now I’m excited to have released my 1st single/music video faith from my upcoming EP MANIFEST.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, not a smooth road. Not so much because of external reasons, more so than self-doubt, fear, and internalizing different situations that felt like rejection. As an artist, I can be really sensitive about those things, but the strength and the confidence came with not only practice of my craft but also by doing the inner work on myself and discovering who I am & who I’m becoming.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I heal through song & I would like to think that I specialize in soul work. I would assume that I’m known for singing, but I would be even more proud to know that I was a symbol of inspiration for those who strive to be their most authentic self to go after what God told them they could have. What sets me apart is that I understand I’m merely but a servant and that alone predicates the moves & decisions I make; the songs that I write; the songs that I sing; the things that I talk about; the company I keep, etc.
