Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Tucker.
Hi Travis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up in Manassas, Virginia, I sang in church, high school choirs, and talent shows. I initially went to college at NYU where I joined the N’ Harmonics a cappella group.
After one year, I transferred to the University of Virginia where I had my first experience playing with a live band and founded the Cappella group ReMiX. These experiences led me to audition for American Idol in 2005. I advanced to the top 16. After the show, I returned to college at the University of Virginia to finish my Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Master’s degree in teaching.
Upon graduating from UVA in 2006, I began teaching high school math at Freedom High School in Woodbridge, Virginia while simultaneously performing with the band Millennium, through the Washington Talent Agency. Starting as a singer, I eventually took on the reigns of band leader in 2016.
Millennium has grown to be one of the premier bands in the DMV. We have a wide-ranging repertoire from Current Hits to Classic Rock, Jazz to Country, Motown to Alternative, Hip-Hop to Pop, and everything in between. We pride ourselves on our electric performance and unique arrangements.
I also perform solo at various local venues and am an accomplished songwriter. I have three albums available everywhere music is sold/downloaded. The latest is “Travis Tucker 2.0.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, I would say the road has been relatively smooth with bumps along the way.
Starting the Cappella group, ReMiX may have been one of the hardest things I have ever done on a long scale. It was my first experience in developing something from scratch, steering a ship dependent upon multiple people, creating content, and delivering that content to the community. It was a crash course in leadership 101 for which I am incredibly grateful.
The biggest struggle was competing in and leaving American Idol. It was a great experience, but I was young and very green in the music industry, so some of my performances were not what they could have been. Simon Cowell was quick to make this point in his typical fashion.
As a young adult, being insulted on national television hurt, and it took a while to recover and find my self-worth again.

Songwriting – 3 albums/EP’s: Live!, Travis and Holly 3.22.13, and Travis Tucker 2.0. Also wrote “It Can Wait” for the Prince William County anti-texting while driving campaign. My songs have a positive, uplifting, often poetic vibe. I hope to use my music to inspire people of all ages to live their lives to the fullest.
