Inspiring Conversations with Janice Green of Maven Realty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Green.

Hi Janice, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my real estate career armed with the knowledge that homeownership is the pathway to generational wealth. At that time, I understood that the most marginalized of us were not afforded the same opportunities as others.

This set me on a course to help educate potential first-time home buyers on the resources available to secure their dream. The first home that I ever sold was in Reservoir Hill for $49,000.

I could not have imagined the growth that would come in Baltimore City in the last decade. Today, as a Minority Female CEO and Broker, I understand that success for me has come with a humility and sense of pride for the work that I have done thus far and will continue to do throughout my career.

I choose to keep an office here in Highlandtown because I know that I can make an impact on this community. Through education and perseverance, I can continue to assist home buyers on a path to their financial future and wealth for generations to come.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were not many people in the industry that looked like me when I originally became a realtor in 2004.

Not in my profession and certainly not buying and selling homes. Real estate wasn’t this glamourous lifestyle to be had at the time. It was really hard work and I had to find my niche.

Those first Baltimore Deals did not produce much by way of commission and the brokers at the time had astronomical fees. It would be years before I really started making a decent income.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Maven Realty LLC?
Maven Realty LLC is a full-service real estate brokerage. I have a small female team. We specialize in first-time homebuyer purchase programs.

We work with lenders who are well versed in government monies that allow for assistance with down payments and assist those who are at 50% of MFI (median family income) or higher. We teach classes on programs like “Pathway to Purchase” or “Open Doors” which provide down payment assistance to buyers who meet the requirements.

Many buyers do not even know that these programs exist. We offer online classes monthly and just began to offer them in person again, post-Covid.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
There are many real estate applications out there.

GCAAR (Greater Capitol Association Of Realtors) offers many educational materials for my growth and education. I am a member of the National Association of Realtors which keeps me abreast of market trends.

Live Baltimore is one of my favorite local sites for up-to-date information.
