Community Highlights: Meet Tamra Lisier of That SaWce

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamra Lisier.

Tamra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
During the pandemic, I picked up curiosity about how to make different foods/recipes. Being a native of the DMV area, I wanted to learn how to make mumbo sauce & found an easy recipe online. I wasn’t 100% satisfied with how it came out, so I tweaked a few things in the recipe to cater more to my tastebuds. I prefer a sweet and tangy balance of flavors.

As a result, SaWce was created! I started out by putting it on different foods at home & allowed my friends & family to try it. From there, I experimented with multiple different flavors of our Original That SaWce & that’s how our Millionaire Mango flavor was born!

I had really great feedback on the products so I decided to bottle it up. Tapping into my entrepreneurial spirit, I began selling it. In the beginning, sales were by word of mouth. Currently, we are vastly growing our business & have shipped to over 50% of the United States so far!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There has definitely been a few challenges along the road.

Everything is trial & error being an entrepreneur, you’re constantly figuring out things as you go. The biggest thing for our business has been building a great rapport with our customers so they can trust us to give them the best service & products.

People can be wary of supporting small businesses due to some of the negative associations with them. We are dedicated to changing that!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Food has always been a large part of my life growing up. Many of the most important points in my life have all been centered around food and eating in some form or fashion. Being able to have a business where I can express my creativity & foodie ideas simultaneously has been a dream come true.

Staying true to my DMV roots, while also being able to share my product with others is what makes That SaWce so authentic and meaningful to me. That SaWce started out as a simple idea in my kitchen during the pandemic. The time spent in the kitchen experimenting and testing out different recipes has allowed me to bring my culinary ideas to life.

We are extremely proud and passionate about our brand, especially the versatility in all of our products, the flavors, our customer service, etc. Make sure to put love into every order and package as a thank you for supporting us and our growing brand.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My best advice to give someone starting out is to stay true to your goals & dreams.

If people say your business idea is too crazy or it won’t work then DO IT! That’s all the confirmation you need. When I was starting out, I wish I knew the importance of networking with other small businesses.

Adjusting from supporting big corporations to small businesses has been a transition, but keeping the dollars in the local community is how we can all support each other.
