Conversations with Dakota Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dakota Hill.

Hi Dakota, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Sure, it all started when I was a lot younger and heard numerous classics during car rides and cookouts. Being a 2002 baby, you get all the burn for “being a 2000’s baby” but you also are born right after one of the best music and general eras of all times so it gives you room to study a little bit of both. I was a studier. Studying got me into my craft and my passion. I Studied enough to build a produce my own sound, now it’s about how I can elevate that, ya know?

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe that you didn’t put in the most effort if you had a smooth road or it’s not meant to be if it seems easy. So, therefore, I definitely ran into a few potholes trying to reach where I’m at currently musically. I definitely find exposure as a big challenge, everyone likes to make the rich richer, so they support those who are rich already but sleep on the underground. Also, consistency is a struggle as well because you have to put out what you like, what the listener likes, and balance it out between what sound is kinda trending ya know. Mentally and just in life, everyone has struggles daily I feel like that should be normal. It’s all about how you beat the battles and that’s why only the strong survive, right?

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m KidKota, some would call me an artist, others would refer to myself such as a rapper, but I’ll go with creative. I like that term for some reason. I’m mainly known for my music that I’ve been creating many different ways since about 2013-2014. Actually, earlier than that maybe when I started uploading remixes to YouTube. I would say currently I’m most proud of my progress! Always good to see how far you’ve come. And it’s even better when your sound and art is starting to differ from others!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
There’s definitely a few memories that I cherish BUT, every year I take my birthday super deep because being here another year is a big blessing in itself. When I was a child, after school my mom used to take me and one of my best friends, my brother, Big Ricky to friendlies to celebrate! It was never too much We did this a few times and that made me happy being with my closest people.
